I am pleased to announce that effective immediately and in association with our principal Pokernews Limited, there is to be a major and complete upgrade of the PNW software and format from Cold Fusion.

As this involves significant phased transfer of all historical data and records it will extend into the year 2008. When completed, this will bring Pokernetwork into line with other international Poker forums and maintain our position as the premier Australasian web site.

Pokernetwork will remain a platform for player interaction and for the promotion of Down Under off line Casinos, Pub and Club Poker and the online sites world wide. Starting with the Crown Aussie Millions in January 2008 it will be a land mark year for Pokernetwork.

As a result of this I have been asked to return to the PNW web site and assume my former role. I have accepted and look forward to the Poker action and interface with old and new friends once more.

No doubt PNW fans, Bugsy and Tam, will still bring hot Milo to my desk in the early hours?

consider considering Wiliam (www.wiliam.com.au) and moving beyond coldfusion.

I am biased.

Zero, master's post says moving away from coldfusion (I think you misread it)

I'd guess Pokernews already have their own developers

and spratt, i'm not sure it really matters what the language is, just as long it works for us. i made a post a year or two ago with a few simple suggestions to make the site work better (view the source to see how incorrect the HTML is), but these recommendations were never implemented

finally, as a shameless plug, anyone feel free to buy my PHP / Web 2.0 book that is coming out on Dec 17 ;)

Any of the modern forum formats are fine.

As long as there search feature is robust and the previous posts are correctly imported into it.

We shall now be able to troll without the headaches this current software provides.

Any chance of loosening up the registration process too? I'm running out of e-mail address.

You will all be delighted with the final product.

and yes I missed PNW.

I will copy this post and send to our text guys who are already inside the guts of Cold Fusion PNW.

Hendrix please bring a book to the Millions. I would be delighted to buy one even if I don't understand it.

Hi,

I am in charge of the transition from one system to another. You will not see the big difference in the beginning. Later we will start changing design, adding new features and pages.

We are discussing the what forum software we should use - IPB or vBulletin. Both have lots of great features including private messaging, profiling etc. Definitely PokerNetwork is separate from PokerNews and it will remain separate. Pokernews features will be re-built for pokernetwork only. But not all of them. I would not like to tell them as it should be a pleasant surprize for you :)

As this is a huge job, Lithuanian office will be working with Australian office hand by hand. Site needs changes so I declare the year 2008 as year when PokerNetwork will be reborn and will become no1. in Australasia Poker world. I think the Master will agree with me.

Great. Now how about assigning someone to manage the PNW League? Or at the very least, update the results page occasionally?

Hi Maurie,

Welcome Back!!!!!!!!

Now that you're back, and Poker News is finally spending some cash on the PNW website and forum, is there any chance that somebody will be assigned to moderate the noticeboard and regulate it like it once was in the days of a “Maurie Pears operated PNW”??? There aren't that many threads posted daily, so how long could it possibly take???

EG:

1. No personal petty squabbles unless they are poker related. The Poker Dome squabble is a prime example on where the line should be drawn. It was poker related, but now it’s become personal, so therefore it no longer has a place on this forum.

2. No swearing or offensive language permitted - hopefully the new software will take care of this.

3. Inappropriate avatars removed (including mine if need be).

4. OT - Off Topic subjects removed from the Main Noticeboard. Maybe create an "Off Topic" section just like the "Hand Discussion" section. Only poker related posts should be on the Main Noticeboard. It is a “Poker Noticeboard”; nothing more; nothing less.

5. Unpaid and shameless advertising posts removed immediately.

6. Tightening up the registration process (I don’t know how though).

7. When posts are moved, that admin advise on the Main Noticeboard where they have been moved to so that posters can reply, and also realise the relevant area to post in future.

8. If a post or thread is deleted, that admin advise the offending party via their registered e-mail address that the post/thread has been deleted; the reason why and the consequences of a repeat offence. The past practice of “locking threads” but still being able to view them totally defeats the purpose .

Maurie, I have no doubt that you are proud that PNW has become the # 1 Oz poker forum considering its humble beginnings, however I would be surprised if you’re not disappointed at what the Main Noticeboard has become in relation to its content. No point upgrading the forum software and having a million hits a year if what people are reading is the crap that has been permitted since you left!!!! The credibility will slowly but surely be re-established if posters can only post poker related topics. Plain and Simple!!!!

CHEERS

JOEYTEZ

P.S. Before anybody posts that I have been one of the main culprits over the years, I totally agree. I was just rolling with the punches and pushing the boundaries just like everybody else. Mainly to see how much Poker News cared about PNW as their latest acquisition. I didn’t take long to figure out the answer.

I can assure you my posts were markedly different when Maurie was running the show. The fairest of all administrators/moderators!!!!!

Joey, I think you'll find that if all the 'soapie' threads were removed, number of readers would drop off substantially.

Fiddla
thanks for the post. I appreciate it. I have noted a number of areas.

Considerable funds are being invested and the site needs to be protected.I need a bit of time to think. There are a number of priorities.

All those PNW genii and IT techs can help Marius by offering advice, especially if they emulate your considered comments. Marius is a great technician and enormous support to me and PNL. Thanks for your post also my Northern friend.
