Gambling with Loans

During my time running PokerNetwork, I spent 1000s of hours around casinos usually as a casual observer poker player in action while we covered the events all around Australia with online reporting through PokerNetwork. One of the things that amused me was the amount of side business that goes on between patrons, in what can only be described as a black-market economy.

A friend of mine, Linda Geenen, was a dealer in Las Vegas for years, dealing poker to the big end of town at the Bellagio and MGM, and has written in detail about her experiences observing player interacting. Her blogs are a fascinating read to say the least.

Like many who have been involved in the gambling scene for an extended period, I’ve seen my fair share of things too. The biggest black-market economy of course is the lending business, this is especially the case in the poker world. It also seems that the higher the limit that players play the more money that changes hands. Poker players are notorious for lending money to one another, and what’s always surprising is that they are usually interest free loans just done out of good will. You don’t want to see your mate go bad, which is ironic given the idea is you want to win money from them. These loans tend to be your smaller loans up to a few thousand dollars. However, I know of some players that owe so much money to multiple people that if you count it all up it approaches the millions.

Then there is the classic story of a well known Australian poker identity that sold more than 100% of himself at the world series one year (stories vary from 150% to 250%) with the deliberate intention of busing out of the event and profiting 10 to 20k. The issue was whenever he shoved he got lucky and found himself as one of the chip leaders well into the event. By that time the gig was up because his investors, while a little bemused with his play, were all starting to barrack hard and were quickly doing their sums as to what % they all owned, and it quickly totalled more than 100%. I think a quick shareholders meeting solved the issue with some pro-rata dilutions and fingers at risk for the player himself. I’m not exactly sure how that one ended.

Of course, other economies thrive at the poker table as well, this is particularly true when it comes to sports betting. Poker players love to bet between themselves on sports. This usually involves offering a slightly better line than the prevailing market. These bets can climb into the 1000s and are nearly always done on credit. The other favourite pastime is betting on golf. Poker players are notorious for large scale golf betting. I remember during the Aussie Million’s one year the Crown bus arrived taking all the VIP poker players to play at Capital. On the putting green was Phil Ivey who had apparently been there for hours. Rumours where he travelled with his golf coach he was so serious about the game. The amount of side bets that day in every group was mind boggling.

From my experience there are not too many winners in this environment, but there are a few that thrive in it. One disturbing trend was a few patrons also borrowed money on high interest rates to fund their gambling habits. To be honest, this was not the norm, but it did happen from time to time. Often this would be a last resort when they were so far in debt to others that they considered this option with the hope of turning their losing streak around. This of course is never a good idea, but it did happen. Most short-term lenders now have very strict guidelines about lending to those with gambling problems. Having said that, those with significant gambling problems are often good at hiding this. Responsible online loan providers will look for tell tale signs of gambling activity such as regular withdrawal amounts from ATMs at or near a gambling institute (be it the TAB, RSL, Casino or pokies venue). Most lenders will decline an application with significant gambling activity. The adage of “gamble responsibility” kind of goes in one ear and out the other sometimes among poker players. I think defining what responsible gambling is would be more effective that the current slogan. As a starting point never fund your gambling with high interest loans!

Video Poker Tips

Video poker is one of the most exciting games to play on any online casino's virtual floor and for good reason. Like all casino games video poker has a negative-expectation rule meaning that the house will always win in the long run.

That said, it offers the player more opportunities for losing less than any other casino game. We are going to provide you with some handy video poker strategy, Tricks and tips that will stand you in good stead next time you play this wonderful game be it in a brick-and-mortar or at an online casino.

Nowadays video poker players have to scout hard to find that extra comp to pump up their potential financial return. For many casino visitors video poker provides an enjoyable gaming experience because they like the independence the game offers. For one there's no pitboss watching you like a hawk, no dealers copping an attitude, the rules are simple and there are no fellow players to criticize your play.

There's a distinct difference between a video poker player and a slots player. For one video poker makes you think, it requires an educated decision, video poker players can peruse the paytable to determine their expected return while slots is often labelled as 'mindless' game play at best.

Each and every video poker machine is totally random, the 52 cards (can be more if there are jokers) has the same chance to come out in every hand as it does in a physical deck of cards. Every video poker machine can be analyzed mathematically to reveal the long term payback.

Strictly speaking video poker players lose less per hour than slot players. You might be thinking how is this? The strategies for live poker and for video poker are different, but even just applying good card sense, video poker players usually earn a higher payback percentage than players playing slots of the same denomination at the same casino. Video poker is usually ''looser'' than most slots the average return to the player can be more than 99%. This explains why online casinos offer players less club awards for video poker play than for slots play.

To become good at video poker requires time to make a decision which slows down your game play. Because video poker is a game of skill it allows players to improve their results, unlike slot machines you're almost always at the mercy of luck. Over the years video poker's popularity increased as casino enthusiasts found it less intimidating than table games and more fun and challenging than slot machines.

It's easy to find the best video poker game and to master the accurate strategy for it. Unlike slots mathematicians figured out that the return percentage of a video poker machine could be determined by its paytable. During the early 1990s they developed strategies that turned your average video poker machine into a cash cow.

The interesting part is that when you hold your cards the machine can still give you the payoff you're looking for. Some video poker machine vendors such as Microgaming or Net Entertainment use a bonus match feature to do this while other use a so-called ''magic genie'' to change your hold.

How To Pick The Right Video Poker Game

Choosing the right video poker game requires skill, there can be subtle difference for the bottom payout to the top payout and players must know the difference between the bad and good schedules. The choice online casinos offer can be overwhelming at times luckily we're here to provide you with some hints on how to be a good video poker scout:

Always check the paytable, the coin denomination, the payoffs for 1 coin and for 5 coins.
Players can get that extra reward such as a bonus for the fifth coin. Some casinos try and fool players with a 9/6 Jacks or Better that pays 2,500 coins for a Royal Flush instead of 4,000, in this business it's imperative that you always stay alert!
Make sure that you hold the right cards. If you've been dealt two Aces, hold them and discard the other 3 cards, assuming they're low value cards.
VIPs must ensure that loyal video poker play is rewarded with comps, cash back on losses and special bonuses once in a while.
Beginners should play Jacks or Better because it's the most basic of all video poker games and often referred to as the ''Standard'' game, it's easy to learn, it's less volatile; the ups and downs in winning and losing aren't so steep-your bankroll will last longer than most other video poker games.

In summary. Unfortunately all is not rosy on the Jacks or Better front, the biggest problem these days is that the game (9/6 Jacks or Better) is disappearing from most gambling locales. And, many casinos cut the expected value of 99.5% for most of their video poker games right down to a painful 95%.

Sydney Australia, there's a bridge an opera house some crap around it ,me and STAR CITY CASINO (insert religious music & AHHHH.... here) . There's a good chance that being of the poker playing persuasion is why you are on this site . My finely tuned skills of deduction should be evident by now to even the most sample( the joke is that I am simple too so I wrote sample , do you get it do you get the joke-Bojack Horseman fans unite) of readers and yes my friends it is a cross that I must bare on my own , but I will be taking readers that have not tuned out as of yet on the journey that is The WSOP Sydney 2017 to give you a glimpse of what a poker superstars mind looks like. Initially my target was going to be Daniel Negereaneu, to the beginners out there he is an associate of Poker Stars a company that handles online poker and live tournaments with a friendly rip you off with a smile kind of corporate approach to things. This muscle, I mean this assistant to ventriloquist Lee Jones is on the front line fighting for the rights of players and the integrity of the game of poker. sorry my mistake, just had a flashback, wow... that was weird I thought I was back in sometime prior the year 2000 before all the dummies were affected by the bug .Prior to dummies having the right to free speech and being aknowledged as being Real Boys the dummies used to fight for us poker players and poker in general, why they could do more in one interview than what we could do if all our money was stolen/frozen/misappropriated we had proof and the culprits were in reach and they were doing interviews admitting to it. Now these dummies were bad ass , mostly right ...and integrity, Oh my God they were dripping swagoo loads of integrity. Then the big bad puppet master tricked them into becoming Real Boys , oh and board members maybe(not sure and couldn't be f'd checking afterall we are just talking about a dummy here). Just took a phone call , what was I rambling about? What happened to WSOP SYDNEY 2017? Thats right we were looking to analyse a superior poker mind not unlike mine. So what I was gonna do right, was get a scoop and a grinder? or maybe just a golf club and break the top gently off the top of the scalp of our mastermind, carefully scoop out as much brain as I could in the least amount of tries and then attach electrodes and hook it up to an tablet , a phone or a laptop , but through all this I would also need to hold my selfie stick and film the process while explaining step by step.So yadda yadda yadda I couldn't convince anyone that it was possible and after many hours of deliberation once again the smartest guy in this room ,me, solved the problem. Raqther than argue hypothetically I just did a trial run.
Checklist 1x Jonas doll , 1x cucumber, 1x lube, tissues , camera/phone, selfie stick , ice cream scoop- list was getting a bit long but trust me this is a list that turned out to be more common than you think after searching Dneg ia a wank it just popped up. There I was everything set, scoop in one hand doll jammed between my thighs with my body pressed hard against it to stop any movement (from the doll anyway, right Daniel) and then the moment of truth .(drum roll please ) iI can't be done because I only have two hands ,one for the selfie , one for the scoop , hello what about connecting electrodes ? It was kind of like multi tabling without a heads up display , I was not equipped after all you try holding a selfie stick pouting, talking and concentrating on getting into a doll , only a dummy would think it was possible.
So what now ? Well my superior intellect ,have I mentioned that I have a superior intellect? Well my superior intellect lead me to the conclusion that I may need to forgo using a /the dummy so I will attend the event and report back as well as I can, if I see any worthy poker players I will challenge them and possibly interview them, with a selfie stick, and share it with you good people.
There is a series of previous blogs that I have uploaded about 30 years ago as manila re if you would like to go and tell me how good /great I am over there as well. Talkie talkie soon.
There is a series of previous blogs that I have uploaded about 30 years ago as manila re if you would like to go and tell me how good /great I am over there as well. Repetition, repetition , repetition.

Poker stars does not offer cash games in my area , is the pop up message I get when trying to join a cash table. Date is 12th September 2017 and the last time I played was 11th September 2017. There was some legislation that went through to day in Aiustralia or USA it was concerning online transactions or banking or something ,I can't seem to find it at the moment. This may be the reason for the kneejerk POKER BAN. Updates will start flooding in soon I'd say but for now the internet is eerily quiet on the subject. Is this because all of Australia is in shock? Do we really move and react that slowly down here , that we have not expressed an opinion or put two and two together yet? Or am I Orson Welles(ing) the shit out of this and the only issue is I am PC illiterate or being targeted or, or , or?
NOPE! Online Poker is fkd in the AU ,then again it could be targeted at me just when I start getting ahead "THEY" shut me down. "THEY" fear me so.

How Poker Players Can Benefit From The Rise of Free Bet Offers

That Poker has enjoyed an unprecedented surge in popularity over the last several years should come as no surprise to any regular reader of this website.

Spearheaded by the rapid growth of technology and widespread access to 24/7 WiFi, the digital revolution has introduced Australia to an influx of online betting and virtual casino sites.

Whilst the sheer number of such sites certainly plays a factor in such popularity, it is the competition between them that has been the biggest driving factor behind Australian Poker's boom period.

Seeking to stand out in a crowded market place, site owners faced with stiff competition soon began taking the tried-and-trusted method of giving something away in order to attract new customers.

In this instance, that "something" was free gambling credits or matched bonuses, promoted as a gift for new sign-ups and ultimately used as a means of ensuring that players stuck with the brand promoting the offer, rather than one of their competitors.

It was, by all accounts, a successful strategy, attracting increasing numbers of new players as each month went by.

Whilst the seasoned veterans of the game were naturally among them, it was the amateurs, the novices, and the absolute beginners that would prove to be Poker's biggest source of revenues, each taking advantage of free sigh-up offers to get their first taste of the game with none of the risks involved.

From Online Poker to Real World Popularity

From that first taste, many began to take their interest to the next level, leading to a rise in the number of physical, real-world Poker tournaments.

Creating a perfect circle of events, the growth in popularity of real world Poker would lead to a spike in new sign-ups to online platforms, the online platforms would take their interest to the real world, and thus the cycle continued.

Meanwhile, friendly games and amateur competitions would also play their part in Poker taking off in a way that few other forms entertainment could claim to match.

Until now.

Inspired by the Poker industry's marketing strategy of giving away special offers to attract new sign-ups, the world of sports betting has spent the past few years adopting a similar tactic, drawing customers back to the bookmakers by offering free wagers.

Much as it did with casinos, the move proved successful, even spawning its own niche industry.

Today, sites listing recommended free bets for AU players are commonplace, helping punters to seize upon the latest special offers, and navigate their way to those sites offering the highest amounts of free betting credits.

Again, this worked.

As we slowly approach the end of the decade, sports betting now lives Poker a serious run for its money in the popularity stakes.

Does that mean that the casinos and tournament organisers should feel their market dominance threatened?

Is the emergence of free bets poised to usurp Poker as the undisputed king of the gambling industry?

Not necessarily.

Used correctly, free bet offers could actually prove to be a useful tool in the Poker player's arsenal.

How Free Bets Could Spearhead Poker’s Next Boom Period

What this comes down to, is an opportunity for players to begin taking advantage of sports betting offers for themselves, ultimately using winnings to finance the next Poker game without reaching into their own wallets.

In the coming months, this could well become even easier.

Whilst offering free bets was initially a solid, fool-proof way for early adopters to stand out from the crowd, once the competition got wind of the idea, it merely became industry standard. Now, those innovative sports betting platforms have been forced to find a new way to differentiate themselves from their rivals and continue to attract new players.

To do that, many have begun taking the idea of a free bet offer one step further by eliminating the need to put down a deposit.

Whilst rules and restrictions no doubt apply, this does present Poker players with a unique opportunity to up their accounts and put funds towards their next game whilst keeping their own money safe.

As such, rather than detract from Poker’s popularity, the rise of free sports betting could be just the thing to spearhead the game’s next boom period.
