Satellite Bankroll

1 comment ● 2010-11-29

Last year I posted on the forum about moving away from club poker to the casino. http://www.pokernetwork.com/forums/main-noticeboard/20115-club-casino.html

Since then, I've only been able to play a few tourneys at Star City with a personal best in the ANZPT Bounty event (12th). This made me even more determined to study the game harder for both live and online. I've recently started going to the casino to play the $1/2$ now that they've upped the BI to $200 and I've had some reasonable success with the limted time I have.

A couple of months ago I decided to turn my attention to online poker as I really wanted to play the APPT Sydney ME and qualify online. As my bankroll didn't really accomodate the buy-in for either the freezeouts or the rebuys, I knew building up my backroll playing satellites would be the only way for me to attack my goal.

My time to play these is limited so playing the turbos were my only option. I started with the Nightly 100K $3-R turbo and was good for $162. Then the Sunday Million $8-R and I thought yeeeha!!! A week went by before I entered into the PCA sat $700 qualifier $3-R x 2. I was feeling confident that I had my strategies in place and proceeded to go through the field and take it down.

It was at this point I decided this was the best time for me to step up with the big boys and play the APPT Sydney $22-R x3 Turbo SEAT ONLY Qualifier. Friday night booked in with the family and no distractions.

A lots been said about these x3 turbos being bankroll killers but I love'em. With my limited time to play online they are the perfect schedule for my lifestyle. Not to mention the amount of dead money before the add-on. UNBELIEVABLE. When the game started my mind set was just play your best and we'll go from there. I started off OK and had to rebuy a few times but I was determined to see this through. Last hand before the add-on I lost an All-in SB v BB which, after my double rebuy and add-on, left me with only $36K to play with after the break. At least I had the button. Oh well i thought. I've seen people come back from here.

The prize breakdown was 1st =ticket 2nd-6th=$650 7th=$70 I would be happy just to make the money..... But wait a minute.... the average stack is only 75K and there are only 34 players left!!!

On the second hand UTG is All-in for the same amount as me. I have A9 and I call and dominate him with A8. WOW I'm nearly chip average. A few more hands I take down uncontested and then the SB tries to move in with K9. I have A9 again and it holds and propels me to 3rd. Before the next orbit we are down to 2 tables. I play my normal style and make it to the final table and then the money. Play settles down for a while and then a couple of quick bust outs and we are heads-up. I'm shaking in my boots as my goal is staring me in the face. After a tug-o-war I manage to get a 4:1 chip lead and then my A8 beats his 55 to take it down. YEEEEEEEE YAAAAA. Main Event here I come.

I very rarely play any pub poker now and if I do, it would only be for the social aspect. Since this win I've build up more $T which I will use for other live satelittes events and hopfully more 3x turbos.

See ya at the tables.
