Dunk-A-Stripper, World Series of Poker 2010 and beyond…

There’s always a ton of poker action out here in the USA and this means a ton of poker talk, gossip and rumours, some about the WSOP 2010 which I thought I would send Down Under...

With the 3rd stop on the new North America Poker Tour at Mohegan Sun over (for DVR addicts, NAPT coverage has started on ESPN), players had a bunch of options for their next tournament, some more expensive than others. The luckier ones headed to the EPT in San Remo, others headed back to Vegas for the Venetian Deep Stack and/or the Bellagio WPT Championship and others, made a road trip down to Atlantic City for the Borgata Spring Poker Open.

I made the trip down to AC from New York last w/end and with players everywhere at the Borgata's 90 or so table poker room (and another 30ish in the Siganture Room for the SPO), everyone seemed to be talking about and counting down the days till the World Series of Poker 2010, less than 35 days to go now!

So, speaking of the WSOP 2010, here’s some of the gossip and rumours going round the felt...

A Bit of Change for 2010

Just like every year, there will be some changes at the WSOP 2010. It will be held in the Convention Centre at the Rio instead of the Amazon Room (and some of the smaller rooms, eg. Brasilia room, etc.) which is great news for large field bracelet events, like the ME that have split fields for Day 1. Now everyone, players, spectators and press alike, will all be in the one room. No more wandering between rooms looking for friends, tables, etc. It will actually mean an even bigger sea of tables, but some of the logistical complications from previous years should be made easier for organisers and players alike.

However, I’ve heard that this means that the Gaming Life Expo won’t be seen this year. Sadly, that means (sorry guys!) that there won’t be any more Dunk-A-Stripper. Yes guys, that's right. You're not going to be able to play with the McFadden's Beer Pong Girls and the Dunk-A-Stripper booth is history... Let's all take a moment....

Moving on... Due to the huge success of the $1K "Stimulus Special" last year that attracted a sold out field of 6012 players, it looks like there will be six $1K bracelet events. Triple Chance is also back and there will be more mixed events, some featuring eight (yes eight!) different forms of poker, one of them, a $50K Player’s Championship. Something for everyone I guess!

Other rumours for the N9 and WSOP 2011

Rumours around the East Coast poker rooms (Borgata, Foxwoods, Mohegan, etc.) and also out in Vegas (Bellagio, Caesars, Venetian, etc), are that this will be the last WSOP at the Rio and that it will be moving to Planet Hollywood (aka the Aladdin for those that remember that name) for 2011. The move to the Rio from Binion’s was mainly to accommodate the growth in the WSOP. As we all know, fields like the ME, simply exploded with the Moneymaker effect. it's hard to say when or if we'll ever reach the same numbers as Jamie Gold's 2006 ME, but it's possible that Harrah's is beginning to explore some of it's other properties, such as Planet Hollywood, to play host to the 2011 WSOP.

Further speculation and rumours are that the November 9 will be playing the Final Table of the ME somewhere other than the Rio. Your guess is as good as anyone’s as to where this could be. Suffice to say, the N9 is quite a spectacle now and it’s a great marketing tool that Harrah’s could use to spotlight some of their other properties. Anyway, all this is just talk, but player interest seems to keep tongues wagging at the tables.

Ok, time to catch up on the poker TV shows on my DVR and make plans for the Foxwoods Mega Stack XVI. Got to practice for the WSOP, practice makes perfect right? Ok, so maybe monkey wants his banana... Later fellow degens!
