Hi fellow PNW members, my name is Nigel Brine and I am one of the 10 finalists of the PokerStars Dream Job Australia promotion which is offering a 12 month sponsorship package. The winner of this promotion will be decided by votes.
I have been a member of PNW since Jan 09, and particularly enjoy reading about the success of others in the Monday gogogo threads. Here is some more info about me:
I am 31 and from Adelaide. My interests include heavy metal (Bal-Sagoth, Ayreon, Moonsorrow \m/), beer, fishing, computers and technology. I am currently working as a Senior Systems Engineer in Electronic Warfare at a large Defence company.
I started playing online on Absolute Poker back in '06 after first playing on Xbox Live. It was there that I witnessed Monster Dong crushing a $109 SNG - he must have only been 18 at the time. It has been interesting to follow his progress since those early days.
After I won a few freerolls on AP I started playing SNGs and ring games to build up my roll. Later I started playing more frequently on PokerStars after winning a few freerolls there, and managed to grind up to a few $k. I also started playing in some of the Skycity tournament series and qualified for most finals including the Adelaide Hold'em Championships before it became part of the ANZPT.
I have since stopped playing at the casino to focus on finishing my PhD thesis in wireless communications which has now been accepted with amendments and is due by the end of April.
I can now be found playing $3-$30 MTTs (predominatly NLHE and HORSE) a couple of nights a week on PokerStars (under the sn OrphandGland) and PKR (under the sn Hermafro, where I am ranked 1693rd in MTTs). I am yet to post a >$1k win but have come close a few times (final table Auckland ANZPT 5k FPP satellite, 24/26517 in the Sunday $200k GTD, 4 final tables in the Aussie Open/Classic on PKR in the last month).
