Where do I play now? How de we survive? Poker Players United?
● 2011-07-02
Well what's it gonna be ? RPM ,RED KINGS, 888 ,EVEREST, MANSION, PKR etcetera etcetera. There is no shortage of rooms once you start looking ,or once you are forced to, the question is what drew us all towards Poker Stars Full Tilt Party Poker and the other two or three major players? Purely and simply does it come down to advertising ? There are rooms with some half decent bonus offers , rake and prizes well above what Pokerstars for instance ever offered. What are we baseing our decisions on?
Personally I liked the format of Pokerstars whether it was because it was my first experience with online poker or it actually is user friendly is what I am trying to figure out .For one thing I know that the frequent player points or vip program never was any benefit to me as compared with basic rakeback . Getting a few dollars back at the end of the week sometimes saved me having to re-load,this in turn stopped me from switching rooms all together when things were going bad.So is rakeback enough to base our present day decisions on? Do we only look for the highest percentage of rake return and disregard the graphics ? Do we forgoe the customer service along with deposit and withdrawal options? Do we need to consider security ? .When asking these and many more questions are we only to concern ourselves with the financial returns and deal sweeteners or are we actually involved in a struggle over how much we are willing to give up to partake in this game of ours.
There are various resources available to all of us to aid us in our decisions in these changing times some are sponsor based, some are public forums where trusted experts offer advice through personal experience. From a business perspective we are holding all the cards as the poker rooms clamour for all the random traffic ,for this reason I believe we need to step up as a group and form a type of council .Purely as an example there is the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) I am not aware of their stance on any issues or their validity as an organisation but for the sake of this example if we were to form a loose union as a show of solidarity with the right leadership online poker players would be able to negotiate terms which in future could for example guarantee player balances , assure a more transparent look at their respective providers business practices and obligations.
This is food for thought , an organisation of this type could prove to be the key to establishing our game as a true driving force in international economics. With a valid framework I believe an alliance representing onine poker is capable of going as far as listing on the stock exchange and having the ongoing support of government .
