Default Why is online poker illegal in Australia?
Probably been answered a 100 times in the past but I haven't seen....

In NSW particularly were u cant turn around without seeing a pub full of poker machines and TAB's is online poker illegal.

Also why are Australian Casino's allowed to satelite players into tourney's online when it is illegal?

Correction Moonshine, they're "pokies", not poker machines.

Someone correct me if they know different or better but i think its more of a case if the poker site is based in a particular country for operations
then that country's resident are not allowed to gamble on it, the poker site based out of that country.

& Vodo4ka has a point. State & Federal govt's can legally tax and demand operating fees/licences in order to generate tax funds
from the casino establishments on State & Federal soil, so it is in their best interests to block or hinder overseas "online" establishments
that they have no chance in hell of soliciting dollars from on any legal realm or platform.

Pokies are legal for the same reason smoking is legal. Keeps your taxes "down". But so bs.

That's a more specific answer. But the OP seemed to think generally it's illegal for any Australian to play on ANY online poker site.

it is illegal for online poker operators anywhere to offer gaming to Australians (s15 of the Act).
