How do I play pocket aces without feeling like I've played like a donk or not extracted any value?
I shove preflop and win the blinds....or I limp/raise get called by donks and lose. I know there is no one answer but various people's opinions are good to read and consider. My latest donk out: PokerStars Game #41160332989: Tournament #301010003, $10+$1 USD Hold'em No Limit - Level III (25/50) - 2010/03/15 7:22:38 AEST [2010/03/14 16:22:38 ET] Table '301010003 2890' 9-max Seat #7 is the button Seat 1: xManuel1981 (2925 in chips) is sitting out Seat 2: MrMaxwell777 (3015 in chips) Seat 3: 2lexa1971 (2835 in chips) Seat 4: Alaskan_chic (3325 in chips) Seat 5: ckj123 (3138 in chips) Seat 6: WatchOut2006 (2962 in chips) Seat 7: 18undsexy (2850 in chips) Seat 8: gabela9 (2875 in chips) is sitting out Seat 9: Mas D.T.L.L (3228 in chips) gabela9: posts small blind 25 Mas D.T.L.L: posts big blind 50 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to MrMaxwell777 [Ad Ah] xManuel1981: folds MrMaxwell777: raises 100 to 150 2lexa1971: folds Alaskan_chic: folds ckj123: calls 150 WatchOut2006: folds 18undsexy: folds gabela9: folds Mas D.T.L.L: folds *** FLOP *** [7c 2c Td] MrMaxwell777: bets 300 ckj123: raises 2688 to 2988 and is all-in MrMaxwell777: calls 2565 and is all-in Uncalled bet (123) returned to ckj123 *** TURN *** [7c 2c Td] [Qd] *** RIVER *** [7c 2c Td Qd] [Jc] *** SHOW DOWN *** MrMaxwell777: shows [Ad Ah] (a pair of Aces) ckj123: shows [Jd 7d] (two pair, Jacks and Sevens) ckj123 collected 6105 from pot *** SUMMARY *** Total pot 6105 | Rake 0 Board [7c 2c Td Qd Jc] Seat 1: xManuel1981 folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 2: MrMaxwell777 showed [Ad Ah] and lost with a pair of Aces Seat 3: 2lexa1971 folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 4: Alaskan_chic folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 5: ckj123 showed [Jd 7d] and won (6105) with two pair, Jacks and Sevens Seat 6: WatchOut2006 folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 7: 18undsexy (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 8: gabela9 (small blind) folded before Flop Seat 9: Mas D.T.L.L (big blind) folded before Flop This loose aggressive donked me...I knew he hit a pair but was also sure he did not have a set/two pair from his previous crazy raises/calls. Am I just unlucky in this example? |

in lower level tournaments (which usually dont play very deep), making a std raise and not folding post flop unless there is like 4 callers and a 789hhh board is a good basic idea with AA.
obv example hand is unlucky, i assume you already know this if you are playing (and rolled for) $10 tourneys. |

I been keeping my stats since Jan 2010 , heres what I got
1st few weeks play I used to bet small on AA sometimes limp in or bet 2 X 15 wins 6 losses then after that I decided to raise 10 times the BB at start game and when blinds get over 100 I do about 5 to 6 times and later in game maybe less . results since betting more 54 wins 3 losses about 20 preflop wins . I'm happy with this result its better than losing 40% Last edited by Colmaca; 15-03-2010 at 08:59 AM. |
