I prefer the 2.5x + option, looks stronger for mid pairs & big A's, gets more in for value with premiums.
Not a great deal of difference tho I would have thought - as long as you are 3 betting you're getting your message across. eg, if i was a limper and you raised 2.5x or 2.5x+my limp the extra bb would not be the influencer of my decision - the fact that you 3 bet would have me thinking (not the specific account)
Whatever option you decide on, try and keep it consistent.

As a general rule anything from 2.5-3x the bet plus a bit more for any additional callers works.

Basically don't give anyone better than 2.5:1 preflop and you wont be doing anything too far wrong. A little less than pot is not hard to remember.
Just to be clear, what matters is the pot odds you are presenting your opponent(s) with.
