Default Apl Poker Vs Npl Poker

    Hello,
I am relatively new to poker, started playing after watching some poker on tv and my brother recently scored a nice payout on pokerstars roughly $6,000 (which is what really attracted me to get serious on poker). I want to play live, and i found there are two major poker organisers, i want to pick one but have some trouble in choosing which one is the better place to play and learn. i love to play with both difficult and easy opponents, with not a fast blind structure like online poker (preferably min 15-20minute+ blind structure), good amount starting stack, good blind structure and also relatively low buy in, i want to play 2-3 tournaments a week so preferably less than $30 buy in.

    Can someone help me choose?
I am having some trouble, and would prefer peoples opinions

Not sure why you wouldn't just play both venues, then stick with the one you preferred. I'd guess people will be the deciding factor and not the blind structure.

i hate the idea of people learning to play at APL / NPL...
its good to get a feel for the game or to socialise with friends, but strategy wise, avoid.. OR just do the opposite of everyone else, and u should be a long term winner..

the play is so bad, and people can easily fall into bad habits.
i know people who play a few times a week, every week at APL/NPL etc.. and they arent any better at poker than when they started.. u'd think after 6 years or so u owuld improve, or at least develop a better game..

on the other hand, we have people come to our home game who play spaz poker, and boy do they spew chips.. easy $$ lol..

APL NPL people tend to love ANY ace.. on ANY board.. trying to catch..

Prefer NPL to APL, because it has better games in my area (Northern Beaches). The average player is alot better at the NPL games but your gonna get the morons and donkeys at any event, like a guy yesterday called my all in with JJ on a 10 high board with 10 2 in mid position and then caught a 2 on river and said i didn't know how to play.

And totally agree with the Aces comment Danx

The guys above make good points.

There is one point that I want to make about your aversion to fast blind structures, as you mentioned, that there is online. Even though the blinds are faster, the action is a lot quicker.

At these APL / NPL games which have 15min blinds, the play can be so slow (drunks taking to long, slow shuffling, noobs not knowing what to do) that you don't even get 1
rotation without the blinds going up. This can be majorly frustrating.

Personally, I think learning online is easier, and more beneficial to your learning. That being said the freeroll tournaments online can be as bad a play as APL / NPL.

Perhaps invest a few bucks online and get your brother to sit in on a few sessions with you to give you some pointers.

If you're playing to get better, play online

If you're playing for fun, APL or NPL is fine all of the players suck so you wont improve but you should be able to be profitable straight away if you know what beats what and what hands to raise preflop. Play at whatever venue is convenient for you.

you just wont get good structures at these games, learn the rules there and move into playing online, you will thank yourself later
