Default Looking for someone to help coach me

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the pokersite, but not really new to the poker world. I've decided that I want to try out playing full time, but the trial this week has been pretty disappointing.

I experience severe fluctuations. I'm playing on RaiseandFold at the moment and I started with just $20 in there and managed to get it up to over $300. I've grown quite fond of playing the .25/.5 games, but my results just vary too much. My first 8 hours session saw my bank roll increase to over $700, then the next session dropping down to $300, then the next day getting it back up, and then the next day (today) getting below $150.

I guess I'm looking for someone to help coach me with my game so I can have a bit of consistency and eventually quit my day job ;-)

Preferably looking for someone who does it for free.

    Thanks all

I've said it before and I'll say it again

    Message To a Young Gun

The Young Gun thinks he knows the score, he's got it all worked out,
Been up and down the street awhile, he knows what it's about.
With mom and dad to pay the rent and put gas in the car,
He spends his hours at on-line play, dreams it will take him far.

With new sites springing up each day, and raking every hand,
You'd think he'd gain a clue to what the industry has planned.
With rake-back deals the bonus whore may think he has the edge.
He doesn't realize he's blindly walking on a ledge.

They're wiser folk than you and I, of this there is no doubt.
And they won't even bat an eye when your cash pool drains out.
They'll chew you up and spit you out, and then they'll go for more,
It won't take long to find them, they're all lined up at the door.

So, Young Gun, open up your eyes and take a look around.
The goose that lays the golden egg is nowhere to be found.
The on-line game can be some fun, that's what it ought to be.
Don't for a single moment dream that it's a money tree.

So, if you have a run of luck, take it for all it's worth.
But don't believe your skill is like the miracle of birth.
When some run hot, some must run cold. It's all a give and take.
The biggest winner in the end is he who wields the rake.

If you want some pointers PM me and i'll add you on skype. I might even ghost a session for free and tell you what you're doing wrong.

Also you're not anywhere close to ready to play poker professionally so put that idea out of your mind at least until you have a NET profit of 50k from playing online poker. At that point you can start to consider it at some stage in the future.

    Hey mate,

Welcome to PNW. We've moved this over to the Beginner's Forum so that you'll only receive helpful responses.

There are plenty of people here who would be happy to help you, so feel free to ask questions or post hand histories in the Hand Discussion forum.

Professional coaching usually doesn't come free, but we're certainly happy to help where we can.

Also as Swoop said, it's a long way from making your first deposit to playing professionally. Especially in these times where the games are tough. Learn the basics and grind the low stakes (lower than $0.25/0.50 for your bankroll) and slowly work your way up.

    Good luck.

Thanks Tassie, for not deleting my post from this thread. It shows great respect.

Message To a Young Gun was created for just this type of situation.

I love to play poker both on-line and live, but I am far from being a winning player in either venue. I am however a far better player than I was before Poker Network.

The best advise I can give to you now is keep the stakes low.

Keep in mind... at your job, you make 40K... you get benefits, you have paid vacation.

Poker you'll have to pay self employment tax. You have no benefits. It doesn't look great on a resume.

Might have to make a lot more for the same quality of life.

That being said, people do it. Play on-line, and see how it goes.
