Why don't hand rankings match difficulty of hitting ? I know there must be an obvious answer but my brain hurts trying to work it out ? anyone know ?

Number of cards needed to make the combination.
13 cards to a suit and you only need 5 to make the flush
20 cards for a straight and only 5 needed to make it.
Signature - Well its a little bit scratchy and really looks like a 5 year old has done it.
Maly's,
Sorry but doesn't help, on the flop I need 1/8 cards to make straight, and 1/9cards to make flush, so its easier to make flush than straight, so why is flush ranked higher ?
because you are a lot more chance to flop a straight draw then to flop a flush draw, therefore a flush is a harder hand to make.

I think what you say may apply pre-flop, but then after flop comes out if its an up and down straight draw vs a 4 card flush, it's easier to get the flush than the straight. So then it's odd that the hand ranking doesn't reflect that, but I guess it's an anomaly that just happens due to structure of Hold'm.
Moffo,
Thanks, Yeah I think I get it, still kinda weird that I am favourite drawing to higher ranked flush against opponent drawing to weaker ranked straight.
