I will try to do my best with offering you advice on which ISP to use. Now this advice may not be the most economical as far as usage is concerned but I believe your playing style is critical to which ISP you use.

Having played online for quite a few years now I have tried a few different ISP's and they may make or break you long term, so its vital to matching your playing style to the provider.

Let me start with VIRGIN now this is a great provider for the starting player. So if your new and rough around the edges you can still get lucky with this provider. The name Virgin is as it states, it caters for the noob. No matter how good or bad you are using these guys you will "run like GOD" for the 1st few months. You will virtually hit every flop, turn every straight and even river all your 1 outers. The technlogy they use (RLG) means you will make great money at the start but then after a few months the "DOOM" switch will kick in and you wont be able to take a trick. It is then I suggest you change your ISP to another.

Now you have some experience you should be able to put your self in a bracket of what type of player you have become. If while on Virgin you played like a donkey or a shark then I suggest moving on to OPTUS. If you played like a rock then I suggest you go to TELSTRA. If however your not sure then I suggest you go to DODO as this caters for muppets as its obvious if you dont know your playing style then you truely are a muppet.

So your a donkey or a shark and have decided to go to Optus. Well what happens here is that as a donkey you keep getting average cards and keep playing like a donk offering suckouts here and there but since you were never destined to make money, the ISP makes sure they keep you interested with the odd win, but essentially its programmed to keep you depositing into your online account. As a shark you will be hammered with pocket pairs esp AA, KK and QQ. you will win a fortune like you should but you will need to be aware that when playing the donkey optus customer you will donked out on now and then. The other issue you will have is playing the DODO provider players as the 2 provider conflict when playing so anything can happen here and you will find that the muppets from DODO will rip you a new one every now and then.

As said above your a Muppet and choose DODO you will get any 2 cards with these guys so you will find yourself playing any 2 cards as you have no choice really. You will win and lose money here all the time as its just how the software works. BUT really who gives a shit anyway especially you as you are a fucking muppet and you will play what you want anyway and offer bad beats as much as blowing your cash every few days.

Then there is TELSTRA this is for the rock/abc/nit poker players. Unfortunatley you will run into the OPTUS/DODO/VIRGIN players and get some beats put on you or even hammer the donkeys from OPTUS. But long term you are a winning player and you will slowly but surely make some money with these guys but it will be a long and slow grind.

Now thats the best advice for now that I can offer you but if your wondering which ISP to use with which online poker site, well thats another story.

Nice work robdon and would have to agree to a certain degree. Personally, via experience, I would put Telstra down with dodo. Virgin then Optus. My personal favorite 'Fixed Line' provider is iiNet.

Some extra info on the 'Fixed Line' hardware - Dodo and Virgin both run off Optus. So if Optus has trouble, so does Dodo and Virgin. BUT currently a major part of Optus is still off Telstra. Hence Telstra has trouble, then it flows down the chain. iiNet has the best infrastructure after Telstra with Optus a close behind.

My ISP recommendation, defendant on availability is Optus Cable. Fixed Line, iiNet.

Please note that I also work for Optus Business but the above was my view before starting at OB (sorry, not in customer service or consumer).

Bring on the NBA I say, then it is going to be down to customer service.

    even the calendar says
