AKs in Turbo SNG (Micro stakes)

Hi everyone,

I'm interested to hear your opinion on how to play AK suited in the following situation:

It was about midway through a 180 seater micro SNG, I was on the button. At this point I was keen to be aggressive and increase my stack, after a long time without decent starting hands. I was in the top 20 in chips at this point.
The villain min raises from utg, everyone folds to me, i 3-bet 3x, he four bets 2x my raise, and i push all in pre-flop.

He calls with Kings. I always seem to be getting called with KK or AA in this spot, blowing a decent stack on one hand.

Would you play it another way?

Stack sizes and blinds are important here. In micro stakes games players are rarely four-betting from UTG with anything weaker than QQ, KK, AA and rarely AK suited.

Did you have any read or notes on the UTG player?

the UTG player was opening a lot of pots, although i had a good stack, i only had about 30-40 bb left. Because it was turbo i felt i had to make a move, so I could get be in a good position to make the final table.
So do you think i should have just called the min 4 bet and tried to spike an ace on the flop? or folded pre?

Once you have three-bet with a 30-40bb stack I don't think you can do too much except get it there.

I agree, but I would have been more wary of a limp or min raise from UTG. The key being survival, I would have just called the min raise and seen flop. If you spike A - push, otherwise muck to a decent raise.

Am I too careful?

Your logic about winning tourneys is completely flawed.

You don't win tournaments just by surviving lol. In most tournaments you'll get blinded out before you can say "all-in".
