Default double gutter, check raise good? yay or nay?

Villain was TAG. My image is solid, most likely TAG as well. I am thinking this play should be +EV since I can definitely see him laying down a ton of overpairs but wanted some other opinions on it.... Full Tilt Poker Game #3078784575: Table Simmons (6 max) - $2/$4 - No Limit Hold'em - 1:49:20 ET - 2007/07/28 Seat 1: hauptizzle ($1,570.20) Seat 2: Rick_McDermott ($394) Seat 3: Micnea ($127.30) Seat 4: Xiadow ($447) Seat 5: JD_Killer ($432.30) Seat 6: Space4Sale ($514.20) hauptizzle posts the small blind of $2 Rick_McDermott posts the big blind of $4 The button is in seat #6 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to hauptizzle [7d 7c] Micnea folds Xiadow raises to $14 JD_Killer calls $14 Space4Sale folds hauptizzle calls $12 Rick_McDermott folds *** FLOP *** [5c 3d 6c] hauptizzle checks Xiadow bets $37 JD_Killer folds hauptizzle calls $37 *** TURN *** [5c 3d 6c] [9h] hauptizzle checks Xiadow bets $85 hauptizzle has 15 seconds left to act hauptizzle raises to $277 -------------------ps. this is a HH from a forum

yea it's probably ok, a bit marginalTAG villain probably uses pot control on the medium overpairs you could easily get to fold, and once he fires that 2nd barrel, he's usually prepared to go with his AA/KK. The flop ck/call is important because hauptizzle's tendencies will come into play. If I was Xiadow sitting there with KK, I'd be thinking "why didn't he c/r a set on that low flop?" - and I'd put my stack in with a big overpair there. I'd really only fear 99 I think. I wouldn't be double-barrelling and planning to fold to a c/r, that's for sure, unless I had air, and this is not a good turn to double-barrel air with anyway. People make a lot of combo draw plays on turn as well as flop. I think there are too many kinds of weird combo draws there on turn to let a big overpair go. I dunno - its close. It's probably an ok play to mix it up, but you're going to get looked up by double barrelers a lot who opened in EP.

Yoyo why do you say you could get medium overpairs to fold? Aren't all overpairs the same here from Xiadow's point of view. I mean, given the preflop action Haup can't really have JJ-AA, so if X has TT-AA he should either fold all or stack off with all. With that in mind Haup needs to know enough about X to think that there is either enough chance he has air or enough chance that he will lay down aces to make this play.Personally, I don't mind the play but I think calling here with a view to check calling unimproved or donk pushing improved (or maybe on a scary card like a club) is a pretty decent option.

Aren't all overpairs the same here from Xiadow's point of view.Yes and No. Yes because the principle that TT is the same as AA in this spot is *basically* sound. No, because poker games are not played on principle. He is VASTLY more likely to ditch TT/JJ than he is to ditch AA.
