Default Blind special - perfect flop

2/3 NL @ CrownI get 8 5 o/s in small blind. 3 limpers (EP, MP, button), I call, BB checks. $15 in the potI check in the dark, flop comes 885 rainbow. Nice!BB checks. EP bets 20. In the 2 hours to that point he's been very tight and only shown down premium handsMP player calls. He's been very loose to that pointButton also calls. New guy, seems the aggressive type.My thinking at this point is that EP must have something good (A8? A5? overpair pockets?) given his image, or he wouldnt have bet out in that spot. I'm not too worried about the other 2. My concern is that both BB and I are very deep stacked (600 or so each), there's 4 in the pot despite the oversized $20 bet and I dont fancy getting sucked out here. Obv I also want to get paid off nicely.I've had a nice run in the last 30 mins, either showing winning hands at showdown or taking pots without needing to show.Do I call or raise here? If raise, how much?

WOW what a fantastic spot to be in.Having been on a nice run over the past half hour then a check raise is probably going to look very strong. However the other players may also think you're trying to continue your run and look your raise up.I think that if you really put one of the players on 8x then you should raise to gain information. But if you're a passive nit like myself (;-P) then i'm probably going to call the 20 and then check raise the turn. The only issue is what card you can really be happy with on the turn and river??Well, look at the 8-x's that are playable on a $2-3 NLH table at Crown. A8, K8, Q8 suited and the connecters such as J8, 10-8, 9-8, 7-8, 6-8. Consequently you really need a 4 on the turn (to hopefully fill someones straight) and then like a 3 or a 2 to be TOTALLY satisfied. However most of the time is going to be totally situational and read dependent on whether or not someone improves against you.Result . . . ? ? ?

Your No 1 goal needs to be to get you stack in here. With 600 behind I think you need to raise now. 100ish in the pot? I would raise pot, so to about 120. If called that makes the pot 360 and you have 470ish. I bet 200 on the turn and push river. An 8 isnt folding anyway and OOP you cant do much else. Anything else doesnt really build the pot enough.

If you have a somewhat aggressive image, I would have lead at this flop for $10 or $15.As played, if the flop better doesn't have an 8, he probably isn't putting much/any more money in given the flop action. I think this is a horrible spot to check-raise.It is reasonably likely that one of the other players is slowplaying an 8, but I think that is the only hand which will give you action if you check-raise. As played, I would just call and hope EP bets the turn in which case you can either check-raise then or hope that one of the players in later position raises with an 8. Or lead at the pot with a smallish (half-pot bet) If an A or K fall on the turn because you'll get paid off by TPGK for another bet on the river. This is one of those spots where it really sucks to be OOP beacause it's hard to get your stack in the middle without really giving away your hand IMO.

I think you're right here about betting out being the best option Johnny as c/r is too strong here. Problem was that I'd already checked in the dark. In the actual hand I check raised it up to 50 and all folded.

Lead is 100% best but since you checked dark...If they done have an 8 or at least an overpair you're not likely getting paid. Nothing you can do about it.Caling and check raising the turn is no good. Look at how many times "hope" was mentioned in that post. No good hoping things happen. You are going to make most money building this pot as quickly as possible. If check raising gets everyone to fold to often then do it more.

"I think that if you really put one of the players on 8x then you should raise to gain information. "Tim no offence, but you should stick to reading and learning rather than giving advice. Pretty much everything you write is mega exploitable and terrible.
