Default Small stack push

Hi All

Interesting hand came up in turbo $55 mtt on party as follows:

Blinds 400/800 30 left

Stacks range between 1000 and 8000 on table, average is 5000 across tournament

utg (1700): shove allin
utg+2 (3500): shove allin
utg+3 (me - 5500): Akdd ??

I ended up shoving as well and the board came 2d7dKhJd3h. utg+2 showed AhKh and utg had Q5o.

Regardless of the result, should I shove here pre with AKs after utg+2 shove? Was this a little loose or no-brainer correct play?

You played it wrong. You should of triple fist pumped before shoving.

Good call!

Not sure what else you could have done, you would have been kicking yourself for days if you had folded. It is a crazy game where the key to winning is sitting around for hours, using all your skill and experience to steal blinds and small pots while patiently waiting for a decent hand and then when you get one you are expected to put the fruits of your hard work on the line for something no better than the flick of a coin.

I still cannot get my head around that to be honest, the two different skills you need to win a poker tournament are so opposite from each other.

I don't think you really had a lot of choice.

AJo+
ATs+
KQo+
77+

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 24.200% 24.08% 00.16% 784594789 5252098.67 { 22+, A2s+, K3s+, Q5s+, J5s+, T6s+, 94s+, 84s+, 75s+, A2o+, K5o+, Q6o+, J7o+, T8o+, 98o }
Hand 1: 30.874% 29.86% 01.07% 972765618 34878712.17 { TT+, A9s+, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, A9o+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo }

Given the EV, we can prob shove a little wider actually.

UTG should be shoving ATC apart from like 23o etc, UTG+1 should be knowing this and re shipping fair wide. Depends what levels the players are thinking on and their skill level.

Thanks for running those numbers. I think the ranges you selected are spot on for the table too. $55 buyin turbo suggests people understand short stack shoving with a wide range and that's what I was seeing at the table even prior to this hand.

Well, AK is clearly no brainer. I'm surprised that the correct calling range is so large, and yes, given the EV it's probably mathematically (but not sure about strategically) correct to call a wider range.

What range could I shove for 40% win? 35%?

I read the original post and thought - yeah I could find a fold here (or a better spot) - but then looking at Jarred's numbers (ty), and the fact that its a Turbo (prob irrelevant) I see the light....
