This happened yesterday at Event 16 of the Aussie Millions...

At level 1, still on starting stack (5k), blinds 25/50

I am in the effective cutoff (two seats not filled) with J-10 hearts. Lee Nelson (UTG+2) raises to 125. I call, button calls.

Flop J-10-8 - two spades
Nelson raises 225
I re-raise to 625
Nelson tanks, then raises to approx 1725 (can't remember the exact amount, but it was close to this)

What should be my next move? Spew fold against the old fella? No plus points for the 'fold pre' option! Also, thoughts on whether my flop re-raise is a wrong move here.

doubt anyone is folding this pre 100bbs deep IP. 3betting pre would be pretty sexy.

as played, NFI. how does Lee play?? it is an uber drawy flop so is he likely to think you would raise draws/combos here? in which case he might 3bet AA/KK etc.

88 seems like the only (likely) hand that beats us though.

Interestingly, I did give strong consideration to the 3-bet pre, but went against that option. This was the first hand that I had come across against Nelson (he'd only just taken his seat).

insta shove. you're ahead way too often and he's probably not that interested in a small buy in tourney anyway.

Get it all in now. I have read a book of his and he won't call unless he has you beat (which is unlikely) or a massive drawing hand (like KQ spades).

Book pro's, if you can 'price them out' and they follow their own teaching - they fold mostly.... or smash you with a monster! (but you likely still have outs for the full house anyway......)

Plus you need to win these flips early so you can survive when you lose the flips later on in the tourney.

Let us say that one of us is playing Day 2 of this event and made the final 18, the other is typing this post! He insta called and unfurled 97cc for the flopped bottom end of a straight. I was more interested to see just how many people would have gone the insta-ship option as I ended up doing. No bad beat here as such, just one of those situations that crop up on the felt.
