    Default Overplayed Pre?

This hand just came up in our weekly satellite series. Down to the last 5.

You blokes in the hand may as well not comment since you know the result (which is irrelevant to my questions anyway) Btw - nh sir

    Two parts to the question....

    1. Did I overplay it pre? My thoughts were.... Murraycod hadn't been too active but that was mainly due to him being fairly short for a while. He just got doubled a couple of hands earlier so I thought he might have been opening light in the c/o (or could possibly fold a mid strength hand to a 3-bet). I suppose I also didn't like the idea of flatting pre for 1/10th of my stack and then folding on most flops.

    2. Now that he flats -what size bet do you want to make on the flop when checked to you? Should I be betting this small to induce a shove or betting big to protect my set?

Your opponent raises 2.5bb, your reraise him 2.5xhis bet, at this time your opponent has only 18.5bb left in a 5 handed game, if he has AA/KK/QQ/AK type of hand he would most likely shove preflop unless hes a slow player...and when he calls your reraise his stack is at the 15bb mark...hmm...

Why check and give him a free card, bet around 4500-5000 mark on the flop.

His check on the flop maybe to check/raise you/try and bluff you off the pot or even force you to comitt your chips all in to the pot or a sign of weakness.

You have top set so your ahead of him even if he holds top pair or 2nd pair, your only worry is if he has a flush or straight.

    Bet flop/shove turn...

I play it the same and bet somewhere between one-third and half pot on the flop hoping for spazz.

Obviously we are happy getting this in pre, just clarifying.

Great - cheers guys. Was a bit concerned I might have overplayed it pre-flop more than anything else. Thanks.

hmmm...5 handed, so pretty wide range for everyone here. 2.5x with a pp is great pre. put the pressure on.

i'd check and take a free card on that flop.

if you bet, most non-heart hands will fold. that's killed a lot of the potential value in this hand.

by checking, you bring bring more op-hands into play on the turn: a semi-bluff shove with a heart and two overs, a non-heart overpair, a hand that paired the turn, even a non-heart AK/AQ will often shove to collect the pot (and double their stack) here.

it gets a little tricky on the turn if the heart comes, but its actually not a bad situation. given stack sizes, he was calling with any heart if you bet that flop, and the flush just arrived, so you now have an option to save yourself some $$ or wait for a repeat river and crush the guy. also - if he flopped a flush with JThh etc, then your check on the flop followed but a heart turn may make him vomit and give you odds to call his probe bet hoping for a repeat on the river.

gien the high likelihood of a non-heart turn, i vm like checking flop to create some value.

66 flops real bad. I'd prefer jamming.
