Default Casino Rule

Just a quick question about a cash game rule... i was playing at Star city Casino.
Pretty much I'm all in preflop and i get called to have the guy proudly turn over his aces. "whta have you got?" he asks... first off all i can keep my cards face down until I've seen the board right? Anyways Aces hold and he says i want to see your cards. and i was beat so i just wanted to fold. My interpretation of the rule is that although he called me ("paid to see my cards") he should keep his cards unexposed untill i turn mine over because as soon as I've seen his cards and i know I'm beat i have the right to muck?
Any thoughts?

Because he’s called you, I think that he’s entitled to see your cards whether he’s already flipped his or not. But if he REALLY wants to see your cards then he should wait till you’ve exposed yours before flipping his, otherwise he’s leaving himself open to someone burying their hand in the muck if beaten, to avoid giving away information.

With your first questions, you are also perfectly entitled to keep them face down until the dealer asks you to roll them (after the whole board has been laid down).
He had a lot to say. He had a lot of nothing to say.

Why the big secret?? was it like this in your brain..... "Shh if I sit still I might not get called since I just moved allin with shit. Oops I just got called, now I have to confirm that I really am a donkey. I wonder if I dont show if I can get away without showing how I donked off my whole stack with 5 3....."

I have never really understood why people who "have a hand" would not want to show their cards after moving all in and being called or even showing cards when making the call. At least if you have crap flip your cards and laugh saying well done you caught me.

POKER TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION
Rules Version 2009.2.0, released Sept. 15, 2009

General Concepts
11. Showdown
At the end of last round of betting, the player who made the last aggressive
action
in that betting round must show first. If there was no bet, the player
to the left of the button shows first and so on clockwise. In stud games, the
player with the high board must show first. In razz, the lowest board shows
first (*some places have the last aggressive action, whatever the round).

Also, ANYONE involved in the hand - including those who folded pre-flop - may
ask for the called player's cards to be shown at showdown. If asked for, it must
be done. Usually (and THAT is a very loaded term), usually it would be
considered less than optimal form, perhaps even bad etiquette, depending on
the particular circumstances, but it still has to be done. Generally it is not asked
for, so it never comes up. But for people who do this repeatedly, or have a track
record for pulling stupid shit like this, then it is probably okay. It all depends.
Intelligent people will not need to ask when it is good form or when it is bad
form: - the old "if you have to ask . . . " dilemma.

A caveat to the above is that local rules may/will supercede this. So it THEN
depends on the local rules - so check them!

Generally, a person who goes all-in, is called and then doesn't show their cards, is
thought less of than those other normal people - MUCH less. So be it! To those
who do this: STOP WASTING TIME AND GET THE F*CK ON WITH IT!!
IMHO /end rant

And this from Robert's Rules:
SECTION 3 - GENERAL POKER RULES:
5. Any player who has been dealt in may request to see any hand that has
been called, even if the opponent's hand or the winning hand has been mucked.
However, this is a privilege that may be revoked if abused. If a player other
than the pot winner asks to see a hand that has been folded, that hand is
dead. If the winning player asks to see a losing player’s hand, both hands are
live, and the best hand wins.
. . . .
8. If everyone checks (or is all-in) on the final betting round, the player who
acted first is the first to show the hand. If there is wagering on the final betting
round, the last player to take aggressive action by a bet or raise is the first to
show the hand. In order to speed up the game, a player holding a probable
winner is encouraged to show the hand without delay. If there are one or
more side pots (because someone is all-in), players are asked to aid in
determining the pot winner by not showing their cards until a pot they are
in is being settled.

FYI

imo, it's time for casinos to change the rules and flip all cards preflop when it's AIPF and no further betting for side pots is possible. way more entertaining, faster, fair for everyone.

if you call on the river and ur hand is beat, then its the same situation - so muck the instant you are beat and before anyone gets a chance to ask.
I don't know if this is right, but i'm old and i've forgotten more than you have, or something

You don't have the right to muck and he has every right to ask to see your cards.

That said, many people consider it poor etiquette for him to do so. It is certainly within the rules though.

Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with him asking to see your cards (since you were both all-in he absolutely has the right to know what you're going all in with) and you are out of line here if you refuse to show him your cards.
