Default Tweed Melbourne champs Satellite Update

Tourney started with 37 runners after a few late cancellations...Among the early bust-outs were poker networks own greeneggs which took the field by surprise and also treasury regular and crown event final tablist Paul Effeney. We lost one of the gold coast up and coming poker stars in Brad Cross on the very first hand when his flopped top two pair ran into bottom set and it was a quick end to the day for Brad. With blinds currently at 800/1600 we have 13 runners remaining with poker networks Houndboy and Brizzy's Jerome Sarris the short stacks...Blocker.

Tony Clark moves all in from the small blind and greg calles the extra $61K....greg has Kc5c....while Tony has him dominated with Kh7d...When the flop comes 3h Qc 5h, greg takes the lead, turn is an Ac river a 9c....and coolangatta's Greg Layton takes out the Melbourne Poker Champs satellite package worth $2800 with an ace high flush...The Gold Coast's Tony Clark was galant in defeat after coming back from his earlier KK v JJ loss against greg to rebuild his stack and take a shot at winning the whole thing once heads up.Tony received $350.00 for his second place finish.Greg was exhausted after his win and said " that his wife will be happy, as he will have to let her get some shopping in when they visit crown in May".Thanks again to all the folks who made the trip down today and for all of you who helped me throughout the course of the day.Friday night April 4th in Ipswich we will meet again for another chance for someone to win their shot at Melbournes Crown Poker Championships.Cheers,Blocker.

Default Tweed Melbourne champs Satellite Update

Greg Layton wins Melbourne champs package satellite event!Saturdays tournament attracted a field of 37 runners from as far away as Ballina in northern NSW to North Lakes in North Brisbane and out west to Ipswich. We lost a player on the first hand of the day as Brad Cross flopped top two pair ran into bottom set and all the chips went into the middle. Experienced online and live tournament player Sam Lynch was also an early casualty and Brisbane poker player turned poker game host Paul Effeney also suffered an early elimination. As the day moved on we were losing players at a quick rate until things started to slow with around 20 players remaining, Tony Clark and Marcel Jaggi were our big stacks but some tough competition had survived thru to the final two tables in Brisbane's Jerome Sarris, Ipswich's Duncan McKinnon and the Gold Coast's Micheal Cook.Bryan Waite went on a rush and built up his stack, Lilian Stoopman proved once again that she has to be considered the best female tournament player in south east Queensland by making our final table, Sean Davis from Ballina was playing solid poker all day and also made our final table along with his friend and Ballina neighbour Rob Salaun. When the final table was reached our remaining 9 players battled it out with some big multi way pots helping to thin the field. Eventually when we reached the money it was Lilian Stoopman who was eliminated in 5th place when she walked into the flopped flush of chip leader Tony Clark.Next to go was Rob Salaun who had nursed a small stack well at the final table to finish in the money. Our 3 handed battle lasted a few levels with chips trading back and forth between our chip leader Greg Layton, Bryan Waite and Tony Clark who had gotten unlucky in some big pots and lost the chip lead.Tony stepped up his aggression factor by about 500% and was able to rebuild his stack. When Bryan raised and then reraised all-in against greg his JJ was in front and had greg's AJ drawing thin...That was until an Ace on the flop sealed Bryan's fate and sent him home in 3rd place. Now Heads up with Greg Layton a 4 to 1 chip leader over Tony Clark, Tony decided to stay aggressive to take a shot at winning the event. The tactic was working until greg fought back. In our final hand tony moved all in from the small blind for an extra $61,000...Greg considered things and made the call showing Kc5c... Tony breathed a small shigh of relief and turned over Kh7d......Unfortunately the flop was Q35 and Greg regained the lead, he went further ahead and won our tournament when the turn and river brought two more clubs and he eventually made an Ace high flush.Tony Clark took home $350 for second place and was unlucky at the final table not to win it all. Greg Layton was a deserved winner though, after making a big laydown early in the day against Greg Cook who had turned a full house against his flopped set. Greg said that laydown and cookie showing him the full house really gave him the confidence he needed and gave him a real shot to take out this tournament.Greg said his wife Robin will be very happy as she will get a few days shopping done down in Melbourne when they fly down in May.I'd like to thank all the players who attended yesterday and to all the folks who helped me out thru the course of the day. To Gaz at 888 a big thank you for your efforts and support, to Andy Gausden who also helped make the event possible, Thanks mate.So hopefully we will see many of you again in about 4 weeks time as we head to Ipswich on Friday night April 4th for the second Melbourne Champs Satellite Tournament.Event Final Placings:Jerome Sarris 9thMarcel Jaggi 8thDuncan McKinnon 7thSean Davis 6thLilian Stoopman 5th $125.00Rob Salaun 4th $175.00Bryan Waite 3rd $250.00Tony Clark 2nd $350.00Greg Layton 1st $2800.00 melbourne poker holiday package.Cheers everyone, hope ya run good...Blocker.
