    Default $160 Tonight @ CoogeeHQ

Tonight we continue on with our $160 Event which has been getting prize pools of well over $5000 and $6000 over the past couple of weeks (even though people think we are closed).

So we are NOT closed and we are expecting a field of around 40.

Dealers are provided on all tables and tonight we are expecting to give you a minimum first prize of $2200 (for all you PokerNews Cup players, here is your entry).

Entry is $160 and there are $150 rebuys available for the first 2 blind levels. Starting stack is 6000 and blinds are 30 mins for the first 2 levels and then 20mins every level thereafter.

See you at the PokerHQ @ Coogee (cnr Carr & Byron St's, Coogee) tonight.

Numbers will continue to shrink everywhere if venues go to war against each other, especially midweek when the player pool is small enough as it is.

Snorky even among venues under the same banner IE poker HQ, I am sure that each other venue couldn't care less about the others if it meant getting the lion share.

Any business that does claim it does either doesnt wont to make money or is BS'ing.

If that is how they want to operate, they are shooting themselves in the foot.

IMO oppinion the thing thats killed the poker market in Sydney is the opening of too many poker rooms way too quick.

Quite simply there was not the market for it as Poker is still in its infancy in Australia. There is only a very small percentage of players that are willing to go out of the comfort zone of their local.

It used to be an excitement to go to Newtown to play and people were quite happy to travel, then we had the options of St Mary's, Coogee, Hurstville ect.

Players obviously wont travel if they have to and then venues found there was not the demand to go around.

This compacted by the fact that at most venues its very hard to find a decent tourney thats affordable on a regular basis made it hard. Instead of having $55-$75 games attracting 100+ runners like in the old days - a buyin thats most feasible to the casual palyer, buyins have become a ridiculous $200 buyin plus.

I cant imagine many new players who are willing to make that investment which is why markets like the NPL and APL are flourishing.

There is always a need for decent buyin games but at the same time the lower scale market shouldnt be ignored like it currently is @ hurstville imparticular and other venues to a lesser degree.
