Sammy Youssef Eliminated in 2nd Place ($51,250); Ali Ghezelbash Wins!

Sammy Youssef and Ali Ghezelbash traded about half a dozen small pots between them, but then all of a sudden, Ghezelbash announced that he was all-in for 725,000 from the button preflop.

"I call," replied Youssef, pushing his last 300,000 into the middle.

Ghezelbash: {ah}{6h}
Youssef: {kd}{qc}

Both players hit on the flop of {qs}{6c}{7s}, with Youssef taking the lead and in great shape to double through when a meaningless {8s} fell on the turn.

The dealer burned, then to everyone's amazement, rolled up the {6d} on the river to give trip sixes, the trophy and the $92,250 first place prize to Ali Ghezelbash!

For his valiant effort in today's tournament, Sammy Youssef takes home $51,250 in prize money.

Congratulations to Ali Ghezelbash ($92,250), 2010 Melbourne Poker Championship High Stakes Hold'em Champion!

The crowds have gone, the cash game tables are few and far between and while we're wrapping things up here in the Crown Poker Room, Ali Ghezelbash out there living it up as he celebrates his victory in today's High Stakes Hold'em Event!

41 of Australia's poker elite coughed up the $5200 to play in today's tournament, putting on a clinical and entertaining display of how the game should be played. In the end, only five players would walk away with a fatter bankroll, but to the victor go the spoils - GG, Ali G!

Congratulations to Sammy Youssef for his runner-up finish, as well as Jason Gray (3rd place), Frank Artufel (4th place) and Jim Sachinidis (5th place), who all put in a great effort to make the money. Kudos to Brendon Rubie, Esan Tabrizi, George Moussa and Sam Higgs who also made the final table.

Well, that'll be all she wrote sports fans - be sure to come back this Sunday, the 30th of May as the PokerNetwork Live Reporting Team brings you all the action of Day 2 of the 2010 Melbourne Poker Championship Main Event! Until then, we bid you adieu.
