Default Crown poaches APPT from Sydney

Crown Casino today announced that the Australian arm of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) will be hosted, for the very first time, at Crown Casino, Melbourne Australia from 17 July - 1 August 2011.

Dubbed as one of the ‘greatest poker championships in the Asia Pacific’ by its prominent and most notable international guests, the APPT is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most prestigious poker tournaments.

Rowan Craigie, Crown Limited’s Chief Executive Officer said today “Crown is very proud to announce the partnership with Global Poker Tours. The Asia Pacific Poker Tour is without a doubt the premier poker tour in the Asia Pacific Region and the partnership with Crown represents out commitment to not only growing the poker market, but also in growing Crown’s major events portfolio. We look forward to a highly competitive and successful championship, and invite players of all skill levels to participate in this exciting event.”

After Crown’s highly successful Aussie Millions Poker Championship, the APPT event has historically been the second largest poker championship in the region, and the dedicated Crown Poker Team is determined that the status will remain.

Danny McDonagh, APPT President also commented today “The APPT Melbourne has special significance to me as I will be returning to the venue where I started my poker career. Without a doubt Crown is now one of the premier poker tournament venues in the world. I am personally very excited for Crown to be joining the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, along with working alongside form colleagues to evolve the event into a major poker championship.

Winning the ‘Main Event’ at the APPT makes instant millionaires out of those with a dream and the determination to outmanoeuvre and outlast the competition, with a AUD$5,000 ‘Main Event’ buy-in and over 500 entrants expected, players can anticipate a high calibre of poker talent from all over the globe all vying for a slice of the AUD$2 million plus prize pool, along with the title of APPT Champion.

With over 70 tables, the Crown Poker Room will now enable the entire field of the ‘Main Event’ to play Day 1 in one flight. The generous structure will also allow for plenty of play time, so stand by as we witness some seriously exciting poker throughout this highly anticipated event.

The ‘Main Event will commence on Friday 29 July 2011 and will be supported by a strong two week schedule of a variety of side events in all poker variants, that players have come accustomed to Crown.

The first week of the schedule features excellent value for money for local and international guests with buy-ins as little as AUD$125 and a large field expected, along with Event No. 8 the ‘8 Game Mixed Event 2-7/H.O.R.S.E/NLHE/PLO’ for AUD$250, the increasingly popular format where the game is rotated through 2-7 triple draw, No Limit Holdem, Pot Limit Omaha and the H.O.R.S.E events is a true test of poker skill.

Event No. 7, the multi-flight ‘No Limit Holdem AUD$200,000 Guarantee’ for AUD$550 will be a Repechage format and will be another popular variant on the schedule. The Crown Poker Team pioneered this format, where eliminated players can re-enter the tournament in subsequent flights, the prize pool in this event is expected to exceed AUD$250,000 so players can expect a number of eliminated players to reload and fire another bullet to try and take down the event.

The State of Origin Event will see the best players in Australasia teaming up with their neighbours to prove that their state, territory or even country produces the best poker players. The State of Origin Championship has been a feature of Crown’s Victorian Poker Championship for a number of years and now takes pride of place in the middle of the APPT Schedule.

The teams will consist of 8 players from each state or territory playing in a 8-table shootout for points. The winner of each table plays off in the final alongside an additional Captains choice table. This event usually draws a huge rail as parochial fans cheer their respective teams on.

The action heats up even further during week two with some higher stakes action including the high stake Event No. 10 ‘AUD$100,000 Challenge’ winner-takes-all for AUD$10,200, Event No. 15 ‘High Stakes No Limit Holdem’ for AUD$10,000 and Event No. 19 ‘AUD$250,000 Challenge’ single-table challenge.

Whilst the chips are flying in the air, there will be some excellent value-for-money events for every day players and amateurs wanting to experience the excitement that is poker. From AUD$550 PLO and 8 game events, AUD$1,100 six max “No Limit Holdem’, there is sure to be a massive turnout for the $340 MegaStack No Limit Holdem.

Unless Star City can come up with a credible substitute, it is now officially a joke as far as poker is concerned...

Looks like it is a replacement, not an addition:
