Default Lee Nelson gives Patrik Antonius a Poker Masterclass

Patrik Antonius has been dominating the Aussie Millions since day 1. With around 400k in chips he has been running over his tables, but with Lee Nelson now sitting 4 to his left he has suddenly found a player he can’t dominate or intimidate. In the break I asked Lee how Antonius was playing:“Patrick is raising around 50-60% of hands preflop, he is getting plenty of action but he is so good post flop he is able to take most of them down. With his image, every time he gets a hand he gets paid off.”So what do you do when you are up against one of the best post flop players in the world; you out play them preflop.Lee “Final Table” Nelson has earned his nickname by making the final table of 1 in every 3 major poker events he has played in his profession career and for those of us on the rail it is apparent how. The current Aussie Millions champion is giving a masterclass in preflop poker. With multiple positional reraises and squeeze plays Lee is chipping into Antonius’ stack. An example hand for you:Blinds are 600 – 1200 with a 200 anteAntonius makes his standard preflop raise to 4kThe 2 players to his left both flat call (both have around 40k in chips) the action passes to Lee on the button. Lee reraises to 16k. The blinds fold and its back to Antonius. With three players in position on him, two of who could well go all if he just flat called, Patrick’s only probable choices are raising or folding. If he raises and Lee actually has a hand Antonius could end up playing for over 1/3rd of his stack. With a resigned look he mucks his cards. The other 2 players, happy to call Patrick’s 4k with his loose table image can’t stand the reraise from Lee Nelson and also fold. Another 16k to Lee stack and he passes the 150k mark.Follow Lee Nelson, Joe Hachem and all the other Team PokerStars players at:www.PokerStarsBlog.com

The all-on move on the flush draw seemed to work for Lee but not Dan Negreanu or Scott Fischman. Is that good poker play or not ? 35% chance to hit against someone who's appeared to be unafraid to call such a bet.Oh Well. Well done Lee. The defending champ has gone from 8K (end of day one) to chip leader.

I could understand Lee pushing if he had a straightflush draw, but with 10s9s on a 854 flop (I think) he was drawing to runner-runner 67, TT, 99 or T9 or a spade to Patrick's over pair.Sounds like Antonius is tilting/steaming a bit, not coming back from the break on time. It's a shame Lee doesn't trash talk, now would be the ideal time to rub it in...

If anybody made a mistake in that hand it is lee nelson period, putting your tourny life on the line whilst having a decent stack with a flush draw and zero fold equity seems to be a bit retarded from my point of view, i cant see how Antonious made any mistake.

Yup my point exactly. There was no need to push against someone who probably will call with a pocket pair. Patrik had been doing that all tourney. Thats how he got most of his stack.Someone like Lee would have tried to find out a much info about other players as possible. Especially the day 1a chip leader.Oh well. It worked and he looks like a star it.

I hadn’t actually heard the hand when I made my second post (was writing the first one during the hand). I assumed Patrick had made the mistake having watched Lee lean on him for the previous 2 hours. Since that hand though, Lee has continued to dominate Patrick by consistently outplaying him.(Ronnie you can count this as one
