Default (OT) Windows Media Player torrent problem - should be easy solution

I download torrent TV shows and movies and they work fine on my laptop on Windows Media Player, but they don't work on my desktop Windows Media Player. I use XP on both computers, and believe I have the same version of WMP on both computers. Anyone know what could be causing this simple problem?I get audio on my desktop from the torrent file, but I can't get video, it just gives me that swirling psychadelic thing from when you play music files.

I should add that my WMP on desktop plays DVD's perfectly fine. It's only movies and shows I download from torrents that won't play visuals, some kind of decoder problem?

You should give Windows Media Player a miss. VLC media player can play any media file type without needing to download codecs. It's the only player you'll ever need.www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

Sounds like you don't have the right video codec.Try one of the packs here:http://www.free-codecs.com/Codec_Packs.htm
That was so terrible I think you gave me cancer!

I spent one hour googling and downloading various codec programs and whatnot. The WMP is still not fixed. Do some Google searches yourself before you embarass yourself by opening your mouth. No offense.

Most likely if its a tvshow or movie. Could be the divx codec. http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/Think thats usually the problem with mine anyway.
Signature - Well its a little bit scratchy and really looks like a 5 year old has done it.
