Bodog Closed
They fell victim to a fairly crafty, devious and well-timed attack (football season about to start) by a guy who put out a dubious "method patent" in 1995 on live casino dealers dealing games online. The guy is a scam artist with a team of lawyers and "method patenting" is fairly controversial in the US, tying up a lot of companies time each year with dubious litigation. Bodog doesn't even have online live dealer games and it's possible Bodog were never notified properly of the lawsuit or, more likely, they simply chose to ignore it and paid the price. One thing you can be sure of is that online casinos will all be rushing to make sure their brand names and URLs are protected in the next few days. The guy that got control of the URL bodog.com is nothing more than a scam artist who doesn't even run online live dealer casino games. He simply takes sites that do run these games to court and gets settlements out of them, which is probably what Bodog will do with the football season starting next week. On the other hand, Calvin Ayre is a fairly proud man who might take his army of lawyers against this other guys lawyers and slug it out in the courts. It might be tricky because Calvin Ayre and Bodog CEO's aren't as stupid as the NETeller founders and would never set foot on continental US and no doubt the scam-artist will be taking that into account - a settlement is the most likely result. I predict Bodog will have their URLs back within a week or 2.
