    Default poker in perth

i have a mate that is over there at the moment and reckons the games at burswood are so soft he is thinking about living there permanently. he understands upswings and varience etc play its part but he maintains the players are of a very poor standard overall with a few easily identifiable local stars and has been constantly pumping the locals at the 2/3 game stress free for a month now with the 5/5 being profitable but far more unstable and to much gambling for his bankroll at the moment.Has any one else played in perth and can provide any thoughts on game quality

I won't get into the rake debates, but I think he wouldn't be too far off. There are a lot of mugs getting fat on the mining boom, swaggering in with $25K in hundreds in their money clips.I'd expect plenty of psycho action.(I've avoided the place, however. Don't have the bankroll to survive heavily cashed-up nutters getting lucky!)

I've played in Burswood a number of times in the past few years, and can only say good things about it.There is plenty of good action which is fairly soft. If you are gonna be there, definitely find the time to play there.

Long time no post I know, long time no poker either. I agree with everything that has been said the games are the softest I have ever seen, there are a few stars here but they stick out so bad its not funny, there are two imparticular they finished 1&2 in the main event last time I went.
I played no limit HE twice and turned a nice profit but got caught hard in the 10/20 limit HE the next time I went while waiting for a seat and now want to make the money back as I cant stand to see a loss in such a week game.
As I stand im 4 loosing sessions in a row and have not won a hand in 14h!!! thats how many peole are staying to the river, just cant wait till it turns around. I may start a game in Perth so anyone who is interested please send me an email or leave a message here. I live in Freo.
Oh and it may be better now but the standard of the poker room staff was the worst I had ever seen, at one point all the supivisors were at my table because I was on tilt and making quite a scene. I had KsQs had yet to win a hand in 5h and was very upset after a few runner runners, and simple errors being made, on this hand I raise preflop and four called then someone says "bet again" there is some confusion as to what this means but he put in the raise two players only put in the $20 insted of $30 then Pit boss is saying to not say bet again, then it comes to me and I cap it as I say "Bet again" as im telling them they have "NO IDEAH what they are doing. Its a community pot ten players and there was $350 in the pot and im blowing up saying not to turn the cards over, there were 4 supivisors watching and they dont notice 5 bets missing from the pot. I then flop the Js10s2s lose the pot to an As3s in the end and the pit boss starts heckiling and teasing me about my loss! I was in for about $900 at this stage and if she were a bloke I would have knocked his head off.
The people in Perth are so lovely but the Dealers are the rudest I have ever come across and they have made a sport out of teasing some of the older players it makes me a little sick to see people paying good money to play in a second rate card room then cop shit of a depressed dealer, I say if you dont like your Job do something else.

I was at Burswood a couple of months ago.

I didn't play poker because the rake was so atrocious that it seemed to not be worth it.

However your arguments about the WA cash surplus I guess make sense, although from memory there would need to be some seriously loose cash there to make up for the rake.

I guess I will take your comments on board and atlleast sit down and play next time I am there however with the mining boom shriveling up quicker than an old mans genitals I don't know if we can look at the West Australian cash surplus as a long term factor.

Gorgon ftw...it'll be back on in no time. Was going to head back to play the teams event (Sapphire series?) with a Perth mate later this year.

Not sure who you mean because a guy from Vic won the Main Event (if you are talking about the Western Classic) .

Unfortunate about your bad run. BL.

Couple of choices, WAPL (Western Australian Poker League) or APL (APL - World's largest poker league.) tried both, prefer WAPL but both will quench your pub poker fix. There used to also be Westside poker or something, I have never been and am unsur eif it is still operating.

    Goodluck.

Couldn't agree more about whats been said so far. Made some time to play there on a trip last year and couldn't believe how soft the games were. Both limit and no limit as well as tournies seemed incredibly soft. The rake is a bit over the top though and not sure whether it would be beatable long term even though the games are soft.
