Default SA Championships raided by Police!

G'day JK old mate,I trust Moscow is still treating you well. One does not forget a police raid !!!They sure got there two bobs worth;Cardigan Bob and myself both pleaded guilty along with several others.Although I made it clear to the judge that I had done nothing wrong, could not afford the time to fight the case, and was pleading guilty under sufference so to speak. The fine was in the order of $50 plus costs.TO fight it would have cost me $200 plus per day in lost work!Good on you for standing your ground and having the case thrown out of court.Lets hope this farce is resolved quickly.Cheers Bob

Spikey and Bob, I have removed a couple of comments from your posts as they appear to incriminate others including the APA. This is a public forum and is read widely. If you would care to email at info@pokernetwork.com I will explain.

This is now a very long thread and it takes time for dialups to load.I have commenced a new thread however it appears that many players with good intentions are commencing to put their foot in the bucket and make matters worse for all concerned. The written word is a double edged tool.

"Remember, in ANY criminal prosecution the police must prove, BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT, that you knew what you were doing was wrong"No, prosecutors don't have to prove that you knew what you were doing was illegal (unless of course you were insane, intoxicated or otherwise in a dissociative state). The defence of mistake of law is limited to property offences where the accused believes he/she is enforcing a claim right. However, I think any court will be sympathetic towards poker players because poker is a victimless crime, if the court finds it to be a crime at all

To all involved in the APA raid dont be to worried about your sitiuation yet. This could be a positive thing for yourselves and poker in SA. Do a little research into the TASTY NIGHTCLUB raid wich happened in melbourne in 1994, hundreds of people were strip searched outside the club under suspicion of widespread drug use and in the end little was found. The patrons of the club took on the state and received hundreds of thousands in compensation and to this day police have not and will not raid a nightclub in melbourne. If what the APA is found to be not doing anything illegal then you guys should push for same sort of compensation. It could be one of the best things that could happen for poker in SA.
