Hello Strong Play,

Thankyou for your question on Tournament Chip stacks.

In small tournament chip stack tournaments (such as $2k,$3K and $5K, you are correct in stating 8 is the usual starting stack of $25.)

However in $10K plus starting stacks (dependant upon initial blind structure) I have always used the following-

The starting stack of $15,000 for the Western Classic MAIN EVENT should consist of :

20 * $25
20 * $100
5 * $500
5 * $1000
1 * $5000

For ease of Tournament management and speed of the game in relation to all-ins I feel the introduction of the $5K chip at the start rather than an extra 5 * $1K chips was a more effective solution given that you have extra lower denomination chips already in play.

Feel free to contact me if you have any queries.

Any chance the fold rule is fixed before this tourney?

Gday Bear,

Just a suggestion - I'm not sure how much of the field you're expecting is going to be locals, but is there any chance at all of making one of the days a 6.30pm (or thereabouts) starting time for the sake of locals who work full time? Maybe even a 3pm start time?

I don't know what (potential) percentage of the field locals who work full time are going to make up, but thought it'd be worth raising the point for the benefits of Average Joes and Joannes who don't play cards for living.

cheers
Max

Hello Max,

The starting times for the MAIN EVENT will remain as posted.

We spent some considerable time discussing this issue before we came to the conclusion that we would run both Day 1A and Day 1B on weekdays (Thur/Fri) at the 12.30pm timeframe.

We are aware that entrants on Day 1 may need to make arrangements within their work premise to attend but given the feedback so far, most potential players have said this will not be a problem.

There are a number of issues which affected this decision which included staff rosters, suitable player break between DAY1 and DAY2, suitable staff and management break between DAY1 and DAY2, tournament administration processes/chip audit at the end of DAY1, etc.

I think you will find most casino's that run a multi day poker event will follow a similar time schedule.

Thankyou for your comments and i will consider possible alternatives for future poker tournaments.

Hope to see you at the Western Classic!

This is good, players love BIG stacks and this lets it happen.

I am hoping to come across for this event - and ty for answering my query.

Thanks Bear! I'll be there as long as I can arrange something with work. So long as it's not deadline time at the magazine, should be all good...

Dean raises a good point...

It is a tough spot, but i think given MOST players stack their chips in 20's, the 15000 starting stack, and the ease provided by this in the 50 and 75 ante levels, i would err on the side of more lower denomination chips rather than less...

Hey Bear,

Sorry this is a little off topic - but is Burswood going to maybe have a satellite to the Pokernews Cup? I would love to have a crack at qualifiying but all the online qualifiers there are you have to have signed up from pokernews, of which I diidnt get a chance to do as I am already on most poker sites.....

Hi Zemmer,

A little bit off topic but i will answer nonetheless.

Unfortunately we wont be able to run a satellite to the PokerNews Cup this year as our major focus is on ensuring the success of the Western Classic and all advertising collateral has already been produced until the end of November.

However we do intend running a number of qualifiers for packages to the 2009 AUSSIE MILLIONS during December.

That plus the continuing preparations for completion of our new dedicated Poker Room scheduled for December means that we are facing a very busy next three months.

Please contact me if you have any further queries
