Default PokerNetwork Players Of The Month - September

September has proven once again that the growth of poker in Australia in recent years has produced some incredible poker talent that is emerging onto the world poker stage. This month we’ve seen the Australian contingent swarm events at the APT and APPT in Macau and Seoul, as well as some brilliant online results during the PokerStars WCOOP.

This month we recognize the achievements of two players who have represented Australia and PokerNetwork with distinction in the contrasting worlds of live and online poker.

Player of The Month – Charles Chua

A man well known in the Australian poker scene, and likeable PokerNetwork forum member “PeepOnTheSly”, Charles “Chucky” Chua has had an amazing year to date. After capturing a massive US$185k in the Mansion Poker Million Dollar Guaranteed Event in early June, Chucky burst onto the world stage during September at the 2008 PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Macau.

Chucky powered through the US$3,200 Main Event to finish runner-up and collect over US$290k. He then followed that up with a repeat final table performance in a world class field in the US$19,250 High Rollers Event, eventually finishing 4th for US$115k.

A brilliant achievement by the Crown regular, now Malaysian resident, that is more than worthy of the PokerNetwork Player of the Month award for September, and we hope to see Chucky excel events in Australia and throughout Asia into the future.

Young Gun of The Month – James “Andy McLEOD” Obst

The story of James Obst is incredible tale that deserves more than a few paragraphs here can provide. One of the top online players in Australia and worldwide under the alias “Andy McLEOD” before he was even of legal age, James recently turned 18 allowing him to return to the virtual felt and dominate as only he knows how.

On August 3rd and only days after his 18th birthday, James returned to the PokerStars Sunday Million in devastating fashion, dominating the field to eventually finish 4th for nearly US$76k. A few weeks late he followed that up by taking down Event #21 in the FTOPS IX. Showing his versatility, this win was in a $320 Razz event and worth another $40k.

James hasn’t slowed down in September with four cashes at the PokerStars WCOOP, with his defining moment coming in Event #16 $215 Pot Limit Omaha with Rebuys. James’ 1st place put him in elite company to have won both an FTOPS and WCOOP title…and in the same year! With his win he added another $98k to online career earnings online at over US$750,000 – all this from a teenager living in the suburbs of Adelaide!

James’ potential is unrivaled and as this online phenom is well on the way to becoming a multi-millionaire, you would think it is simply a matter of time before he captures the attention of the international poker world with a big live tournament victory. We are proud to recognize his achievements and have James as a PokerNetwork Young Gun of the Month award winner.

    Congratulations to Charles and James!
