Smile "Diamond"Jim Crosby -'folds his last hand'

"Diamond"Jim Crosby passed away this morning (8th July) in his sleep. Jim played his last serious poker tournament at the Brisbane Poker Club on May 17th,2009! Born in Texacanna,Texas USA in 1920 Jimmy had a colourful, full life. From riding "box cars" as a runaway child with his two older brothers, in the 1930's to serving in WWII in the Sth Pacific. After settling in Brisbane in the late 40's Jimmy would truck ICE for ice boxes in the hot SEQ summer and split logs in the winter for local fires and cookers. In 1950 he established the "Crosby Stump Company"...making concrete stumps and products for local houses. From the time he made Australia home, poker was a major part of his love for life.During the 60's and 70's he run Manila, draw,Omaha and hold'em games in his home.In early 1987 he discovered my home poker game.Very few weeks went by over that 12 years that Jimmy wasn't at the table. He often made the money in the monthly home game tournaments too. During the 1990's he was a regular at major tournaments in Adelaide,Canberra,Melbourne and Christchurch,NZ. Jim had a great sense of humour, loved life, was a poet, musician and truly loved his poker. He was actually the first player I saw throw his cards on the table, stand up and swear! A true real life Texan...playing Texas Hold'em ! He will be missed. Darryl "Dazzler"Lanyon

Thankyou Darryl for the news.I have not seen Jim for over 10 years but I have many fond memories of the Crosbys.
They were regulars at all the Poker Tournaments around Australia.
Now and than Jim would surprise me with a Christmas card.

Thanks for that Dazzler. Jim was the Australasian Poker champion the year after Beenleigh Bill. Remember the look on the faces of the pros when two amateurs took out the trophy back to back. Great guy and a pleasure to play with. Jim was also an Australian war bride marrying Dot instead of returning to USA after the war. Sadly missed. They don't make them that way nowadays.
