Default Finally a decent Ladies event for Australia!!!

After speaking with Deb at the Vic Champs, she has promised a decent ladies event as the APPT Sydney..

Is set to be the opening event and will be a $550 buy in with a 10k start stack and 30 min levels!!!! I along with quite a few others are really excited..

After speaking with many of the ladies who played the pathetic excuse for an event at the Vic Champs and hearing how disappointed everyone was with such a small buy in and terrible structure - hopefully they will all get on board and have a go at the APPT in December !!!

    Come on ladies

    Bring it on !!!!!!!!!!

I didn't play in the tournament but it was good to see well over 100 ladies participating in the event.

It's good to see more and more women participating in tournaments.

It's great to see more women playing for sure, but those who are serious about it want real tournaments, not $100 buy in and terrible structures. i believe even if they make the buy say $270 - they won't halve the field and they will have a bigger prize pool and make more money. It's proven they have plenty of room at crown to be able to have multiple tournaments running at one time, so why rush it !! Maybe one day they will outlay some money for more than one set of decent tournament chips !!

I have to disagree... knowing the people I know that want to play ladies events their aim is to enjoy the game in a non-threatening enviroment (ie not playing against established male pros etc).

The women who are interested in playing bigger buy-in events would have no qualms playing against blokes.

Ladies events are supposed to encourage more ladies to play the game. Raising the stakes (and likely taking most of the field and fun atmosphere with it) is not going to achieve that.

Agree with Duff here....great to see women playing but other than that I'm not big on Ladies Tourneys in the serious field....it just separates us from the men for what reason?? It's great to get new women in on cheapie tourneys but the serious gals probably don't want to be classified as a "good female player", just a "good player".

Personally I prefer to play in a field of serious talented players, men women (and the in-betweens!) so the field is even and there's plenty for me to learn from everyone.

I don't understand why there is ladies events at all.

What are we saying here? That men are better at poker than ladies? Are men allowed to enter if they want to? Because if not I am surprised that is even allowed. Sports can get away with it because of the obvious differences in physique, but a game of cards?

To my mind this just says that men are more intelligent than women and therefore women should stick to their own when playing games that use brainpower. Is that really what women poker players want the rest of us to think?

Poker is a male dominated game and it's quite obvious. Many ladies don't feel comfortable and may even be intimidated at the idea of playing against men, so they hold ladies tournaments to help them become more comfortable. What is wrong with that??

I think in LA they can't legally hold "Ladies Only" tourneys, so any men who want to play are allowed to register. Phil Gordon and some others dressed up in ladies attire and played one event some years ago.

Not sure if the same law applies in NSW. I'd say it doesn't.

it nearly was 2 . . . we only needed to raise 2k for breast cancer awareness and i was in . . . wig, dress and all!!!

on a more serious note . . . having the buy-in small attracts the small time players that frequent pub poker venues and the like

the whole point of this event is to attract ladies to the game in an environment where they won't feel too threatened - and just in general, have some fun

if you make it say $250 or something, then yes the field will be smaller and the prizepool may be marginally bigger, but don't you want to see the game expand?

keep the $100 buy-in IMO, but maybe make it more of a gala event / charity event
