Default How NOT to report on the WSOP

Just goes to show that reporting on poker should not be done by mainstream media.

UK Guaridan report on Begleiter
Poker is a microcosm of all we admire and disdain about capitalism and democracy. It can be rough-hewn or polished, warm or cold, charitable and caring, or hard and impersonal, fickle and elusive, but ultimately it is fair, and right, and just.

Steven Begleiter went "all in" with a pair of queens, after around 13 hours of Texas Hold 'Em style poker in Las Vegas. A rival player holding an ace and a queen matched the bet, and Begleiter's hopes of winning the world championship crumbled when the dealer turned over an ace – giving his opponent a higher ranking pair.

I laughed at the fact they converted the tournament chips into pounds assuming they were US dollars ...

A former senior executive from Bear Stearns crashed out of the finals of the World Series of Poker yesterday after losing his entire $22m (£13m) stack of chips on a single bet.

FAIL.

"A rival player holding an ace and a queen matched the bet"

I can't help but read this line in a posh accent. "Oh he matched the rival's bet, a jolly good show old chap".

I guess any main-stream attention is a good sign, but yeah that was amusing.

They didn't even mention Ivey?

... but it was in fact one Phil Ivey.

If mainstream media want to cover poker, fine - but get them to hire people that actually have a clue about the game and its players to work as correspondents.

I dont mind it.

It sounds basic and very kindergarten to you/us because simply...we are awesome.

But if i didnt have a good grasp of poker thats not a bad way of writing it up for the masses.
