The comments in JK's post might be plausible, but to know for sure would entail these people were
free to play elsewhere on other sites and not constrained by their contracts. Only then would you be able to tell if they really did have the cash to throw around as they do. Since their sponsorship entails exclusivity on FTP, i highly doubt we'll ever discover the "real" truth. If all that is accomplished is marketing and entertainment value, is it really hurting anyone?

I think there's a difference between being on Team Full Tilt and being a Red Pro.
I've seen Mark Vos and other Red Pros playing on Stars, but you never see anyone on Team Full Tilt. |
