Cool Re the RE RE RE RE RE REPECHAGES

I'm sure the question has been asked before but seriously, why are these so called "main events" re repechages? Can we not stick to having rebuy events and freezeouts? What is the purpose of making a supposedly mid sized event potentially $3300 to be on a level playing field. What is the obsession at Crown with this structure? Who do these formats pander to or are beneficial to? If i wanted to play in an $1100 rebuy i would.
Anyone who now isn't willing to spend up to $3300 is disadvantaged.
Yes good luck to you if you play 1 flight and get through ,thus making it "value", but when every other player who has any ability and a hefty bankroll buys back in to have three times your stack, lets see how +ev you are now.

I'm just as equally sure some people will shoot me down in flames for my assessments, but i would like to see the people who dislike re re re re re repechages to find their voice, to show how pointless and disliked these tournaments are.

Give me an ANZPT 1 buy in any day.

Might have somthing to do with the extra rake crown can make. Popularity is surprising though.

    hmm your right

why let a bad player have 3 chances to buy back in??

and why let a good player have 3 chances to take advantage of his/her (lol) +ev??

why let the prize pool get bigger???

    terrible idea

i guess what im saying is you dont have to re buy if you dont want to, so just treat it as a F/O if you want

I like the repercharge for events where it is cheap enough for the average punter to buy back in once or even twice.

The JHDS Series is a great example of where this works very well because even if a player rebuys 3 times it's only $1650 and probably won't break the bank.

If they start doing it for 1k and 2k events, the average Crown poker player isn't going to keep repercharging and will eventually realise that if they don't intend to rebuy, they might as well not play in the first place.

And that's bad for the prizepool, and also leads to a better quality field.

I think it's probably OK to do it for a 1k event like Melb Champs (although I really think just allowing one 'rebuy' would be better), but if they start introducing the option to rebuy in their 3k+ events, I think that's taking a good idea too far.

    This.

Forgive me if I'm completely wrong, but I think I remember Jonno on the 2p2 pokercast saying he eventually wants the Aussie Millions Main Event to be a repercharge. Too much?

the casino needs to make money. poker isn't really a great earner compared to table games. so profits from poker need to come from higher volume.

as for the other argument, put simply, many/most poker players are -EV (I'll label them fish for simplicity). this is the main reason the other players play, i.e. because there is value and they want to make money.

the more repechages, the more money the fish contribute, the bigger the prizepool. fish that repechage don't really gain an advantage, they are still -EV. it's the same concept of running it twice or three times.

Obv the more money fish put in the better... but, i am a traditionalist, and will always be a freezeout fan, for what logical reasons i cannot articulate...

wonder if i can sit on the fence any harder...

i did mention in my initial post why not leave rebuys as rebuys? In response to boosting the prize pools and letting bad players buy in - how about rebuys with guaranteed prize pools or any game with guaranteed prize pools as opposed to turning your main events into repechages?

Personally i'd rather play the Melb champs 1100 rebuy if i was able to. And to all the geniuses who suggest how fantastic they are, i wouldn't even mind shifting the topic to "What % of tournament poker players are lifetime winners...?"

I'm not interested in playing rebuys now that they rake them.

Also fish are less likely to play because the rebuy tournaments are more aggressive, expensive and have smaller stronger fields. The repercharge as tsapy pointed out is similar to running it twice - there is no change in equity for anyone, regardless of which day(s) you play.

I would like to see the WSOP ME go repercharge.
