How to really make money from poker?

Isn't it time we went to the next level on PNW?
Instead of hero worshiping the Las vegas degenerte gamblers and dreaming of being like them one day would it not be better to learn the ropes of poker room management?
Private games,casino poker rooms,Cruise ship poker rooms,unerground clubs etc.This is the real way to make money.
Not many of us can make a living playing poker let alone a fortune.
Once you accept that you are struggling with the game have you considered changing to the other side of the felt?

The best way to make money from poker is get a real job. I make websites and charge around $6k per site. I normally have a couple going per month. It keeps me fed and I have enough money to pay for my boat and house.

Personally I couldn't stand working with a bunch of degenerates.

Sadly JK, the allure of poker is the attraction of 'easy money'. Take a seat and play against other players that are perceived as being inferior, or grossly inferior to your own poker skills.

Reality bites for the vast majority somewhere in the first 12 month.

You are probably well and truly on your own with your notion of "work" within the poker arena. As you undoubtedly anticipated, you're in the wrong place looking for those prepared to exert themselves after translating a concept into a successful productive venture. Nice thought though.

Mois? Stockmarket to supplement annuity. Any options away from mining and retail might be a good Oz bet in 2012/3. Not unusual to put 100 hrs research into a company. All a learning curve. Knowledge is power.

I can't remember your face but I recall of you spruiking for players to join you in Russia (expenses paid) in 98/99/2000 ish in Canberra. Never my deal; the notion of being outside auto-control never appeals (not to mentioned I was never approached, lol).

All that poker has realised in 2011 for me is 3 free poker trips. Year started well but a mid-season slump. Win is a win though. 15 free poker trips is the target for 2012; nothing exciting, (about $12k worth) a realistic target. I'll go close.

Any form of gambling - only one word/one concept is of importance. Discipline. Anything else is hot air (especially after 40-odd years as a gambler...it becomes distinctly more obvious year by year).

My only real contribution to the "jurisprudence" of this thread is to expand upon this notion of discipline.

"If you have a big win - tie it up, invest it, spend it on a meaningful purchase and don't give it back". Whatever it is spent on is measureable, significant and auto-balancing. Opportunity may not knock twice.
