Australian Poker Hall of Fame

I am pleased to announce that the Annual General Meeting of the APHOF will be held at Crown Casino 1100 hrs 19th January 2012 in closed session.

This will be followed by an induction ceremony at the evening Crown Players Party. The 2011 members Leo Boxell and Danny McDonagh will be formally presented followed by the announcement of the 2012 members.

Some members will also be participating in the first Tournament of Champions 21 January as they will in the APHOF Classic 29th January (subject to their involvement in the $10,500 Mixed event). I am told that the TOC will include all AM winners except for one compassionate leave of absence.

This will be the 9th Aussie Milions and the 14th Anniversary of Crown Poker so admirably instituted by Richard, Sean and Keith (and PNW?). From all those who were present at the 1987 inaugural event at the old Convention centre we wish Crown all the best for this Aussie Millions in their magnificent new quarters. The ghosts of the old CAPC will no doubt be hanging around.

Perhaps the class of 87 will also remember Ron Hurley in Tasmania 1975 and John Stephens, Andrew McDonald in Adelaide 1987 who helped Casino recognition of Poker as a table game.

For the new members welcome to the Hall of Fame.

Our qualifying period has now opened up to the "Young Guns" whom we expect will be prominent in future considerations. Our inductees continue to be selected on skill, service and credit to the game of Live Casino Poker after a period of a minimum of 10 years.

I genuinely think this "Hall Of Fame" thing has been done to death,,what with 95% of the players who have played the game since 1987 either passed on, quit, broke or worse....

The 5 % that have remained were either exceptional business people, criminals and nothing in between ( eg,,,survived JUST on poker skills and sports betting,,,,,( maybe 0.0001 % did / Tino / Jason Gray / Croc )

At 57 years old, I was there and hope to still be in 57 more...

However, it is time to recognize the youth in poker and try assist THEM to NOT make the mistakes the 95% above DID.

What is needed is MORE JK's to send out the TRUTH and less back slapping events for old timers who have NO time for the growth in poker and the younger guns.

Poker really shouldn't be divided into classes....women's field/ Old Codgers / under 19' / pro POker etc etc etc

Just play the damn game and hope you still have chips when they put you in your grave,.,

We veterans know the hall of shame is 20 times bigger than the hall of fame. Why make poker look glamorous and fool all the naive new players.

If UnEducaterd recommends Moffo then who am I to go against that recommendation.

Sure, I nominate Moffo, because he'd be the best poker player in the hall of fame, and he's hof at one liners, plus he pwned me blind vs blind once. Also he doesn't berate unknown players for no reason like i've seen two of current the hall of fame members do, and he doesn't owe everyone money like one person I can think of that was shortlisted each of the last couple years.
