I hope for Jono's sake he did not have a contract. And if he did he could never state that he did, nor could he use it as evidence of the debt.

A contract would imply a business relationship and would almost certainly subject all winnings to taxes, and heavy penalties.

Either way, if anyone at the ATO sees this debate they will be no doubt knocking on Mr Karamalikis' door for a share of the Aussie Millions $200,000 at the very least.

Probably would have been better to keep this one private boys and just chalk it up to experience

If you think it is even remotely plausible that Brendon would fake being hacked to get out of paying you are crazy for backing him in the first place.

Hotmail shenanigans are irrelevant, he is responsible for the money in his account. After binking a large amount he should stay logged in until he has cashed it out. That is just common sense and I assumed it was standard procedure. While you are logged in there is no way for anyone else to do so, even if they have all your passwords.

Not telling him about the 10k immediately is a dick move, especially if he is broke. If you are going through a rough patch that's a significant amount and may have changed which games he could afford to play. He needs to know about it.

He does owe you the full amount, but given how you handled the 10k and if he was genuinely hacked, I'd accept a written acknowledgement of the debt and give him room to pay it back 'when he could'. Then I'd sell that debt if possible, or be sending the boys around next time he cashed for enough to cover it because no doubt he owes others.

DI, I was under the impression that all long term staking deals are subject to tax, but one-off %swaps and %sales were not. Is that correct?

I'm going to get flamed here - but ...

I hate playing against people who are staked.

I've never been staked and will never stake anyone else.

If these players are so great - why do they need staking? And don't give me this variance bullshit. If your a winning player - you should not need someone else's money.

I know there is big variance in tournaments - but if you don't have the bankroll - don't play them.

I know these boys are talented - but if they don't have the roll themselves to pay for the big buy ins - they should keep grinding the smaller tourneys.

If they build up their roll themselves, they'll have more respect for money and them self.

Why should I - or anyone else - be playing a 10k tournament against another player who is risking only 2.5k or less of his own money? Is that fair?

My post here is not going to stop anyone from staking another person - but i just wanted to put my view out there to see if anyone agrees.

I will only accept one abusive post from everyone ... starting now.

    Greg,

If staked players are so bad, why do you hate playing against them?

I'm usually over the moon if I get a table of bad players.

Just to make sure why don't you guys arrange to appear on the Channel 7 morning show and discuss your complaints, think of it as building up your images for future sponsorship deals.

How many of you naive children actually believe that his account was hacked?

Just add another name to the "class" group led by Ferguson,Ivey and Lederer.

Take notice Grunter. How much more evidence do you need?
