This tournament was a Freezeout.Buying alcohol got you into a lottery where six players won free entry into next Sundays' Freezeout. This money was put up by the hotel.
All the money(entry fees)went into the prize pool. All expenses were covered by the hotel.
I did spend $12 for a meal before the tournament.
Not a bad night out.
Beats any tournament in a casino, with its rake, expensive food and poor service.

Except the tourney run at a casino has a strict set of rules and people who now them/how to enforce them.

Any regulated Casino in the world will have a set of rules they operate by and train their staff to adhere to.

Crown operate their tournaments under a set of rules that used to be available for download from their site (not sure if they still are)

Those pub poker leagues have rules, but they also have clauses that allow the TDs to making a ruling directly in conflict with the written rule if they (the TD) feels it is in the interest of the greater number of player, the the host/league or the venue.

I know this for fact as I have worked for 1 such provider and sort out copies of the rules which were almost identical to each other other than names and structures of games.

I was advised during a dispute at a state final one year that sticking to the rules is not good for business. I believe the statement was "We're not in the poker industry, We're in the sports entertainment industry. If you want to play high level poker, go to a casino, if you want to have fun and play some poker without being too serious, come here."

This was the State Manager of the League.

That is Correct .... Most Casinos however operate under the TDA rules (or a hybrid mish mash of their own rules and TDA).
The first rule in the TDA Rules states :

1: Floor People
Floor people are to consider the best interest of the game and fairness as the top priority in the decision-making process. Unusual circumstances can on occasion dictate that decisions in the interest of fairness take priority over the technical rules. The floor person’s decision is final.

So it is not in fact a "made up rule" of Poker Leagues ... it is actually considered the fundamental rule of poker in general.

The rules I have sighted and am currently trying to get my hands back on as proof suggest that the TD may make a ruling in the best interest of teh league nor in the interest of fairness.

I would interpret the interest of fairness in that very short statement to be more towards the middle ground of any situation being questioned than to one side or another regarding the technical writing of the rule.

This doesn't change the fact that these leagues have add a clause tat allows them to make decisions and overturn any rule for their own benefit, be it perceived or actual, does it?

What "Leagues" are you referring to ?

I doubt any League would interpret rules in the best interest of their "League"

The 1st rule of the TDA is exactly what I quoted in my earlier post.

APL, NPL and NPPL all had similar "rules" in their rule books.
