Default The Best Young Guns Down Under

first off, what a great night it was last night. congrats go out to crown for putting it all together. thank goodness all the new dealers were working so all the old hens like carls and wendy could get thrashed.in my time at crown ive seen many wannabe young pros come and go. ive heard young punks say tey can win 3k a week playing 60NL. months later they are gone, never to be sighted again. but we do have some of the best up and coming young guns in the world. from my observations these are the gys you'd want to back in the future.. apologies to gaz, yoyo and others. i havent seen you guys play enough to comment. so, here is my list of the best young players in aussie land.(this list is comprised of both cash game and tourney players)1) Arul - absolutely fearless and has won the respect of many a seasoned pro. his results of late speak for themselves. no tells on this guy. he is just great. argueably the best in australia bar none(hachem included).2) Van "Frodo" Marcus - the best hi/lo player in the country. already a seasoned pro at the tender age on 22. if this guy had any luck in the big tourneys, he'd be right up there on the same level as arul.3) Emad - the gus hansen of aussie poker. his loose aggresive style of play intimidates opponents. ive seen seasoned players shaking in their boots when involved in a big pot with this guy. no question about his ability. this guy is just darn good.4) Matt Downing - mr internet. his internet poker feats are admired by all. what a good player and what a good future he has. 5) Tony Dunst - ok he's american. but apparently he is engaged to an aussie so thats how he qualifies. had a bad streak for a while but is now back where he belongs, at the top! cash or tourneys, this is one guy you dont want to mes with.6) Dusan - very very very underrated player. very quiet but his feats and exploits are well known to many. widely respected by all and sundry. imho the next arul.7) Nathan Jonstone - firstly mate youve got to get rid of that one lens thing. its so irritating. haha. tourney results are fantastic. discussing hands with him, ts obvious that this kid knows what he's doing. im a litle surprised he didnt play the millions. im sure there wouldnt have been any shortage of stakers for this guy. i was however a little baffled as to why he called a couple of all ins on the final table of the hotshots with qj, i think. memory is a little unclear these days.8) Nathan "Pretty boy" Bobik - he could become the face of aussie poker. with his dashing good looks and solid play, he is one kid everyone should be watchng out for. 9) Mark Vos - well his credentials speak for themselves. he has an irritating presence on the tables. i know a lot of players are annoyed by his style of play. going all in blind for 500 bucks. i gues this is the persona he has chosen for himself but he often rubs people the wrong way. speaking to him last night tho, there is no nicer guy away from the tables. 10) Ricky Gov - another seasoned young gun who has the credentials to boot. quiet and unassuming, he is a gentleman and a pleasure to have on the tables. a little unlucky this week but, he will bounce back bigger and better. as long as he stays away from the baccarat tables.11) Charles Chua - while waiting for a 20/40 game one nite, i saw him sit at a 60NL table. 20 mins later, he had taken the chips from every single player on the table some 1200 worth and the table had to be closed. his instincts are impeccable. hasnt been playing lately(was told last night he is not in the best of health). get well soon mate. best wishes from all at crown.12) DanG - dan is included purely because in every tourney i see him play, he always build up a big stack. and somehow, he manages to lose it all at the business end of the tourneys. i dont know if its inexperience or bad luck, but he always puts himself in the position to finish in the money. with the guidance of PNW users, i believe that dan will grow into one of the better young guns in a couple of years. btw, dan are you that kid from hey dad?so thats my take on things. feel free guys to comment or include anyone you feel ive left out. bear in mind that as a parochial vic, this list is somewhat skewed in that favour.till next time.

goofy, why didnt you come say hi @ the party last nite??.Anyway, thanks for putting me on the list, but i certainly dont deserve it, there are much better players than myself going round,Yes you're right i can build a stack most of the time but usually play like a donk for a couple of hands if the cards dry up, and lose a bit, and i also dont practice enuf to improve my play.Add-ons to the listJethro Horrowitz is a must add, havent met or heard of him till the millions but he is certainly a great player and this is certainly not the last we will hear of him.I think the list is perfect thou minus myself,Emad & Arul, speak for themselves.Duzh, doesnt play enough tourney's!Matty D is just an experienced peddler.TonyD & Van play a great gameThe 2 nathans are absolute superstars along with young pokerbok,Charlie is an excellent player but has been a while since ive seen him @ crown. And ricky taking it to fischman for over 2hrs HU wat a champion bad luck not to go all the way.Just my 2 cents.Daniel G

Goofy, I am so far below the players in the your list, its really not funny. I'm fairly certain I will never get anywhere near the skill level of some of those players, should I play for another 30 years. And that's not being modest, I actually think I'll do fairly well out of poker - just nowhere near the level some of those guys are at. Not sure about your inclusion of DanG? I like DanG (well, most of the time :P) - but to include him in this list would be as unfair to the players above him as it would be if you included me in that list. No, DanG will probably get there one day, after he has to learn everything the hard way - sometimes I think he is more interested in arguing a different view than discussing and learning from opposing arguments. You also missed out on PokerMike - a far better player than Nathan and I combined, I think.yoyo

Dan, was only there for a short time. like you i choose to remain anonymous.(though i do it much better than you). the reason i dont disclose myslef is my involvement with crown and once in a while i have complaints which i post here(i dont think management at CC would appreciate that). hope you understand that.yes jethro is must include based on resluts. as are the 2 russells, stevenson and davies. like i said, its just that ive seen the others play a lot more often.dusan, seriously has the ability to be the best but for some reason, doesnt back himself enough in the big tourneys. the reason why you will be better dan is cos you are not afraid to learn. you are not afraid to post HH and ask questions. that is how ull get better. a lot of young punks these days think they know it all and refuse to believe there re gaps in their game. a big ego is the biggest flaw to have in a poker player.

Dear Readers,As some of the geriatrics will know, I have been connected with legal casino poker in this country since the 1970's.That is by way of saying that I believe this is a wonderful thread, and those of us who have been passionate about poker over the years are delighted at the tenor of this thread. The young and the young at heart are always here, and it is warming to see the friendship, companionship and warmth that is engendered by the greatest game of all - poker.I am privileged to be part of it.

Engaged? I got enganged? When did this happen? Why wasn't i told.....How drunk was i?Seriously though the admission of pokermike from that list is criminal, he and van are the two of the best limit cash players on the continent. However, if one person impresses me the most its Arul, his results in tournaments are outstanding. Very well done.
Boo yah i make miracles happen.

Goofy 100% agree with your list but for one missing name. You can not have any 'Young Gun" list that dosnt have PokerMike on it. I know he shrugs from it, but the guy is a guru and to top it iff is a all round nice guy. Any time i have Q's for him he always steers me right, and to miss him is just crazyness. His unasuming way make him easy to overlook, but put him up there 100% (although it easy to over look his small 'elf like' chickenwings'Good list, but missing the "Mike"
