APA Adelaide and SA Police Reach a Compromise
This afternoon APA Adelaide committee members Budy Dahdah and Paul Ravesi met with the new Acting Officer in Charge of Police Licensing Enforcement Branch Paul Bahir, Police officer Chris Corwardlrey from Licensing Branch and the Officer in Charge of Sturt Police Paul Dickinson. This meeting occurred after the Police Licensing Branch contacted the APA as it had concerns about our planned tournament on Sunday. The concerns were as follows.1. That they believe Texan Holdem is a game of chance2. That they believed under the definition of Public Place the APA branch is a public place. In the end we begged to differ and it was stated that if we went ahead with this tournament then the police may take action if they believed we were breaking the law.In the end the police offered us a compromise if we played this Sunday’s tournament in a private residence then it would be fine.As a result the APA Adelaide Committee has decided to transfer this Sunday’s tournament to a private residence in the City.Whoever, wishes to play please call Virus on 0400 123 983 to confirm the location. We mentioned in the meeting it is a pity that this dialogue did not happen for last years June Championship and the whole fiasco could have been avoided.Anyway some progress has been made and it seems the Officer in Charge of Licensing Enforcement Branch may assist the APA to sort the current issues at hand. THE APA ADELAIDE COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE TO ENSURE THAT ITS MEMBERS RIGHTS TO PLAY POKER IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT ARE PROCTECTED.P.S It looks like Errol will be playing after all.
