Tonight is 1-2 Omaha nite at Crown. This game is drying up and it’s a shame. There are two reasons. 1)The skill gap between good players and bad is massive. And the sheep have been slaughtered rather than sheared.2)The game is slow for the stakes involved due to pot calculations. The old 8/16 Holdem Omaha used to be very popular with the gamblers.I think a correctly structured Omaha High game could hit the jackpot.Skillful enough for the good players, with enough fast action and variance for the gamblers, and no calculations for the dealers.Proposed structure: Blinds $5, $5. Bring in bet and pre-flop bet size $10. So you open for $10 or raise to $20 cold. The blinds can complete their stake or fold as per a standard SB situation.SB/BB $5Pre Flop bet size $10Flop Bet size $20Turn Bet size $30River Bet size $30This is a structure well know Omaha author Bob Ciafione endorses as being very good for a balanced Limit game. The problem with a standard Holdem Limit structure in an Omaha game is that the Flop bet size is not large enough to manipulate the pot and so the skill factor drops dramatically. Also by having the blinds lower relative to the bring-in players who understand the game again have a chance to outplay their opponents. On the other side of the coin more players will see a flop than in a pot limit game and big pots will be built by multiple contributors rather than 2-3 players which appeals to the gamblers (including me).
