Default Super System (Dolyle Brunson) is it worth reading in 2006?

Super System is one of a few books I have yet to read and is it worth a read? Some believe its utter crap for 2006 plus & some say it’s a must read for any poker player, is this one I can skip & what will I miss if other books haven’t covered some of his points which would be relevant for 2006 & beyond?

I think Super System is a great book as a starting point / first poker book. But when you read it after reading other books like I did you really don't learn all that much new, especially if you've read Greenstein's Ace on the River to cover etiquette, money management, etc. Plus it's very bulky and not so easy to go back to as a reference point. Just my opinion, anyway.

It is a great read. Anyone who cannot learn by reading it is just not trying. It is not a text book style like many of the modern books. It is not a step-by-step how to play style. SS wont produce robotic play. It has lots of interesting, entertaining sections - you just have to be able to apply knowledge rather than memorise it. Read the chapter on lowball for example - full of gems that you will use even if you never play lowball (and who does?).It has some of the most eccentric typesetting and sentence construction ever put into print. It's worth it for this aspect alone. Gratuitous use of italics, bold fonts , indentation and capitalisation are randomly scattered throughout the entire book.

I just finished reading Kill Phil (the Lee Nelson book you mention). Definately a help. I've been going deep much more online since reading it, haven't ahd a chance to test it out in brick and mortar mtt's yet.

I never read a poker book that wasn't worth the purchase price. How people can bag a book by a legend is beyond me. When did Doyle win his 10th bracelet?2004 wasn't it? How can his knowledge be irrelevant if he's still dragging in braclets?Just got dealt T2 while I was making this post lol.

Go for Super System 2. Read Daniel Negreanu's chapter on Triple Draw Low. Then try to find a gameof Triple Draw Low.

I wasn't bagging the book, I think its a great book, but in terms of Holdem if you've read other books you won't learn too much new.
