    Default Improving computer speed

I have a shitty DELL which I am nursing until I can afford a better one; lately when I have skype, HEM, table ninja x2 and 20 tables across UB/FTP/Stars it starts running really slowly - used to be fine.

I have no idea what my specs are but are there any interim methods to improving computer speed? Was thinking maybe if I exported all of my HEM hands and ran them via an external hard drive it might help?

In addition when I do get a better computer what specific aspects of it should I be looking to juice up the hardest given my aforementioned requirements?

Also if I only need to buy the desktop box (ie have all the peripherals) is there any better store to go to for this kind of stuff? Walked past GeekCentral in the city on the weekend and apparently they custom build.

No, don't run anything off an external HDD. Memory access is what typically slows computers down, and an external HDD is one of the slower types.

Usually if it is recent it means you don't have enough disk space, if your HDD is more than 80% full you gotta remove some stuff.

MSY is the cheapest store usually, but they do have really terrible customer service. They will custom build but they are soup nazi's, if you don't know exactly what you want they wont serve you.

I've used 81GB out of 283GB if that helps.

Huh. Well, if it used to be fine and it isn't anymore... is it fine at the beginning of a session then later gets crappy? Could be a memory leak in HEM or something.

That's a very small hard drive! Any new computer should be fine for what you are doing. Extra ram is always good if you're running a lot of programs but honestly poker stuff is not very demanding.

I'd upgrade asap though your workstation isn't something you need causing tilt.

Are you using a laptop or Desktop?

I recently decided to upgrade my system and in the end bought a very nice unit from MSY and I run two x 24inch LED's of it. This machine cost me about $2,200.

For grinding purposes it is ideal and it means I remain portable with my primary machine, I travel a lot for work.

Over time you will find that your PC will slow down, I would recommend (at a minimum) cleaning your registry (there are software programs that can do this, but I think most of them are a rip). I would STRONGLY recommend that you back up your important stuff to an external HDD, reformat and then reinstall your OS, possibly even looking to upgrade your RAM and parts might help as well.

If you go with the reformat option please put aside a good solid eight hours to get everything done.

P.S - I'm in Melbourne if you need help with any of the above.

Putting extra RAM in it is easy and will help the speed side of things once you have got a bunch of stuff that has been running for a few hours.

Right-click My Computer and go to properties, ur specs will show up there. If your RAM is only ~2GB think about getting 4 in it.

To put things in perspective I have 10GB of RAM in mine and after about 2hours of playing I am using around 4-5GB or RAM up so the more the merrier

MSY is cheap, but you need to know what you want when you go there to make life easier.

Sounds like you need a new one though for sure, def go with a SSD(solid state hard drive) this will improve HEM speed soooooo much.

imo get something really good, it makes a ton of difference, especially since you use it around 9hours a day! i.e Core i7 processor, DDR3 RAM, SSD, 64-bit operating system etc. etc.

Hit me up if you need any more help

    Using a desktop.

ty, I prob won't reformat but might hit you up on advice later as to the better options out of MSY's standard builds if you're happy to do that.

No probs. Let me know how you go. My housemate can build systems as well and he is addicted to your blog.

So I am sure he would jump at the chance to build you a system for ten minutes of strat talk.
