Wink New online poker website will be Australian based

You heard it here first! A new online poker network and website is being setup in Australia and will launch at the end of this year. From the information I have the game design is different to anything else on the market and will be able to legally accept US players. Also, it promises to offer better value with games being played rake free.

All I know at this stage is that it will be rake-free and is being developed by a group in Sydney with feedback from some local poker pros. Once I find out more info I will post here.....

Rake free sites have always been a disaster, just look at WPX that was rake free for a few months and still never got any traffic then stopped altogether when they finally had to charge rake.

Other models such as ClubWPT are decent but will never match say Stars etc

The problem with WPX is that they didn't offer anything better than anybody else in terms of game play and wern't making enough money so couldn't make a go of it. ClubWPT is a pure subscription based site that doesn't offer much for serious players and poor prize pools, however they do have 5 million registered players.

Anyway, I have been doing some more digging and yes it will be rake free not rakeback, the game design is patented and it will launch at the end of the year.

Hmm interesting, I wonder if there is any link.....

Close gambling game loopholes, says Xenophon | News.com.au

The department released an interim report into the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 in late May.

It suggests 30 changes, including banning micro-betting across all platforms on sporting events such as ball-by-ball bets in cricket and point-by-point bets in tennis, as well as a trial of an online poker tournament under strict conditions.

I am not sure if it has a link with what is going on regarding legislation changes. What I have found out is that the game design has been patented and a new variation of holdem will also be introduced.

why would you at this point with the US market the way it is be spreading a new game?
I think it's a much better idea to just sit on your idea and wait for the US to get sorted
then when the US comes back and booms
sell the rights to game to wsoppoker.com or wynnpoker.com etc for so much more than you will ever make from rakes or subscriptions on a small start up site
not to mention by spreading the game now other sites have an opportunity develop a similar version for them selves (cough zoom cough)
thus eliminating any income beyond US legalization because small sites will die and you won't be able to sell your idea

The US is not likely to be sorted any time soon with the federal govt deciding to sit back and let the individual states impose their own regulations.
