Yes, the hofness that is the 2011 World Darts Championship is underway, even though it is still 2010. The final is on January 3.
Here is the market via Sportingbet for the win (top 10 only):
Phil Taylor 2.00
Simon Whitlock 8.00
James Wade 8.00
Raymond van Barneveld 9.00
Gary Anderson 11.00
Mark Webster 15.00
Adrian Lewis 19.00
Paul Nicholson 34.00
Mervyn King 34.00
Terry Jenkins 51.00
I'l supply updates and tips over the next few days for matches - this is televised live on Fox Sports at around 6am AEDST each morning.
So far, Taylor, Whitlock, Anderson and Lewis are already safely through to Round 2. With Taylor's likely Round 2 opponent, 3 time World Champ John Part, knocked out, he now has a straight forward passage to the round of 16. And at $2 (where he has been around the $1.50 mark in markets pre championship), he actually represents better value than you would normally see.
Now for matches coming up in the morning:
Alan Tabern ($1.50) vs Richie Burnett ($2.50): Veteran Burnett has improved form wise in the last 2 months, and envision a potential upset.
Kevin Painter ($1.35) vs Brendan Dolan ($3.05): I expect Painter to take this out, he has a strong history in this championship.
James Wade ($1.10) vs Antoni Alcinas ($6.25): Alcinas qualified for this championship for the first time; and is worth noting in the recent World Cup that he and compatriot Rodriguez defeated England (Wade and Taylor). Wade should be fired up for revenge, I expect a spanking.
Jyhan Artut ($1.55) vs Scott MacKenzie ($2.35) - preliminary round, winner faces Denis Ovens later in the morining. Don't know much about either player, but don't see why MacKenzie can't do some damage here.
If you're after bank interest take Wade to win; for a little extra value, go a Burnett/Painter/Wade/MacKenzie multi at the $8.72 mark.
There is also a market on whether a 9 dart finish will be achieved in these championships - Yes is $2.65, No is $1.45 - if Taylor is in form, every chance this could happen.
