    Default 2011 AFL Discussion Thread

    Hi,

Saw the NRL thread and thought a similar one for the mexican football league was required.

Looked at some premiership odds and had a couple of ideas

Collingwood are way too short for a side of their calibre ($2.65 on Centrebet); this is not just hating, I honestly do not believe they are a 'dynasty' like side like Essendon/Brisbane/Geelong of the last decade or so. As a result seriously considering laying them on Betfair, will be a good anti-sweat as well

Dark horse for flag is obv Carlton ($16), also think they are a very reasonable price @ $3.50 to make the top 4, considering Geelong and the Bulldogs seem vulnerable and therefore not automatically top 4 sides.

Collingwood only need to manage their defence and they will be too strong. The young talent floating through the midfield & half forward lines is scary. In saying that, my boys Hawthorn were in arguably the same position in 2008/09 and ended up missing the finals in 2009. Injuries, declining veterans and the non-appearance of anticipated growth from youngsters ended up costing us; especially in defence where we were anhialated. Collingwood's defence is already, imo, under attack with the loss of N Brown, and potentially Reid & Maxwell. Tarrant looked very ordinary against Essendon and is very injury prone regardless. Collingwood may fall to the same poison as Hawthorn did - defence. Here's hoping...

In saying all that, they will make the top 4, which means that they will play in the prelim. final. You'd think they'll be less that $2.65 at that stage anyway..

    My tips:

    1) Collingwood
    2) Hawthorn
    3) Western Bulldogs
    4) St. Kilda
    5) Geelong
    6) Fremantle
    7) Carlton
    8) Adelaide

Got on Krak for the brownlow at 1001-1 for a fiver. Honestly think Franklin @ $41 is value. So are Goddard & Pendlebury @ $17.

I hope Essendon fans are wearing the splash-proof underpants this week, as I expect that they will be creaming themselves after today's game. Look for wild claims of the glory days returning, and a certain premiership in 2011!

The Saints tonight at about -20pts ($1.70) looks juicy. Surely they'll pull their fingers out this week?

Can't say I'd be in a rush to back a side at the line when they scored just six goals last week. I would think Richmond at the +26.5 at $2.10 is better value; but I wouldn't bother with the match at all.

I'd prefer taking Jack Riewoldt vs Nick Riewoldt head to head!

Agree with Nick that Gold Coast at the line is probably the go.
