One for Maguire

Posted 2009-01-14 GMT+12
Zach Gruneberg check-raised the flop, then check-callied the turn and river against Jesse Maguire. The board read {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Maguire tabled {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for trips, which was good to take the pot.

Maguire is back to 120,000 chips.

Gruneberg In Control

Posted 2009-01-14 GMT+12
Jesse Maguire raised from the button and Zach Gruneberg three-bet from the big blind. Maguire called.

The board was spread {A-Hearts}{9-Spades}{K-Clubs}{K-Spades}{J-Clubs} and Gruneberg lead the betting the whole way, with Maguire calling him down.

Gruneberg tabled {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, which was enough to collect the pot and take command of this final table. He's approaching 500,000 chips with his two opponents both on the short stacks.

Ken Eastwood - 4th Place
After previously running into Zach Gruneberg's flush, Ken Eastwood was down to his last 8,000 in chips.

Jesse Maguire limped in from the cutoff and Zach Gruneberg called. Eastwood, from the big blind, was all in for his last 8,000.

The flop landed {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and both live players checked. The turn was the {10-Hearts} and Gruneberg led out for 16,000 into the side pot. Maguire made the call. The river was the {Q-Hearts} and again Gruneberg fired with Maguire calling.

Gruneberg tabled {J-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for the flush to collect the pot, climbing up to 320,000 chips as Eastwood headed to the cashier to collect AU$12,600 in prize money.

Eastwood Dented

Posted 2009-01-14 GMT+12
Craig Bergeron raised from the button and Ken Eastwood called in the big blind.

The flop was {6-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Eastwood led out with a bet. Bergeron made the call. The turn was the {7-Hearts} and Eastwood fired out again. This time Bergeron raised with Eastwood making the call.

The river landed a repeat {K-Hearts} and Eastwood fired out a bet with Bergeron raising once more. Eastwood said, "Good call," and tossed his cards into the muck.

Bergeron climbed to 175,000 and Eastwood slipped to 40,000.

Grant Levy raised to 12,000 from under the gun and Zach Gruneberg popped it up to 18,000 from the big blind. Levy capped the action and Gruneberg called.

The flop was {J-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Gruneberg led out for 6,000. Levy popped it up to 12,000 and Gruneberg put in the third bet to 18,000. Levy moved all in for less than the minimum raise and Gruneberg made the call.

Gruneberg: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}
Levy: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and river the {6-Spades}, which meant the end of the tournament for the 2007 APPT Sydney Champion. Levy's hard work for the day resulted in a 5th place for AU$9,800 in prize money.
