Peter Rho bet all but his last two 500 chips from the button. Sorel Mizzi then announced all in from the small blind, and with the big blind out of the way, Rho threw in his last two chips.

Rho: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Mizzi: {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}

The board brought a little sweat with it reading {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} to give Rho outs. Any queen or ten would give him a pair, as well as any diamond for a flush. However, the {k-Spades} would end his run and give him an 8th place finish. Rho added an Aussie Millions cash of $16,907 to his CV that includes five WSOP cashes and two WPT cashes.

As Rho headed to the booth to collect his money, Mizzi chipped back up and is now sitting on over 130,000.

Play Pushing Through

The players have just been told that instead of taking a break mid-level, they are going to push on through to the end of this level and then take a twenty minute break.

Kassis Pushes Karamalikis Out

Posted 2009-01-16 GMT+11
Mark Kassis led out from middle position to 7,500 and found only one caller in Jonathan Karamalikis from the button.

On a flop of {2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} Kassis cut out a bet of 15,000. Karamalikis asked for a total count from Kassis, and when he obliged with a response of 85,000, Karamalikis made the call.

When the the {8-Spades} fell on the turn Kassis immediately went all in. Karamalikis shook his head, checked his cards and then folded. With that pot Kassis moved up to 130,000 as Karamalikis slipped to just above 200,000 chips.

Kassis Tangles with Mizzi

Sorel Mizzi made a raise to 7,700 and found two callers in Mark Kassis and Larry Karambis.

On a flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, Karambis checked and Mizzi led for 17,200. With the action now on Kassis, he moved all in for around 80,000 and both players folded.

Kassis is now up to 111,000 and Mizzi has slipped into the bottom half of the field with 93,000.

Clark Hamagami opened to 6,800 on the button. Mark Kassis, from the small blind, thought for over a minute before moving all in for 41,800 total. With the big blind folding, Hamagami snap-called and turned over {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. However, his joy would be short lived as Kassis tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}{K-Clubs} and Kassis doubled to 86,000 as Hamagami slipped back to 153,000 in chips.

Play Slowing Down

Posted 2009-01-16 GMT+11
Play has been fairly slow as of late, with every pot during the last orbit being taken down with a preflop raise.

With the players agreeing on taking a break half way during this level, it seems as though they are playing fairly tight in anticipation for some well needed rest and refreshments.

Karamalikis Keeps Climbing

Posted 2009-01-16 GMT+11
Jonathan Karamalikis has pushed past the 200,000 chip mark after taking a pot from Richard Ashby.

Ashby called a bet on each street from Karamalikis and tabled {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} on a board reading {4-Spades}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}. However, his overpair wouldn't be good enough as Karamalikis tabled {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, which was good enough to take the pot and jump him to 220,000. Afterwards, Ashby slumped to 60,000 in chips.

Jonathan Karamalikis opened from the cutoff to 6,000 and found only one caller in Sorel Mizzi out of the big blind.

Mizzi check-called a 6,500-chip bet on the flop of {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. When the {7-Spades} landed on the turn, he again checked to Karamalikis, who led strongly for 14,000. Mizzi sat in the tank before making the call, and then checked the river {3-Diamonds}.

Karamalikis then cut out a bet of 27,500 and Mizzi stared at him behind his newly donned red sunnies. Mizzi announced after several minutes, "Call," and Karamalikis tabled {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} for a flopped set of quads. Mizzi folded and Karamalikis raked in the pot, which sent his stack to over 190,000 in chips. Mizzi was left with 126,000.

After it slowly folded around to Jonathan Karamalikis in the small blind, he raised it 5,500 and was quickly called by Richard Ashby.

Both players checked the flop of {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and when the {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn, Karamalikis led for 7,000. Ashby sat hiding beneth his hooded sweatshirt and eventually threw the chips in to make the call.

When the {9-Diamonds} peeled on the river, Karamalikis checked and was soon followed by Ashby. Karamalikis shook his head as he tabled {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for a full house and the pot. Ashby mucked. After the hand, Karamalikis moved up to 135,000 and Ashby slipped to 90,000.
